Anyone recommend what energy drink to use on a long ultra.
I dont want the wight of carrying bottles of lucozade sport in my rucksack so I was thinking of just taking some powder stuff and mixing it in with my water at the checkpoints as need be. The thing is I have never used any of the mix it yourself powdered type so I dont know whats best.
What would you lot use? Are gels better? Anyone reccommend any energy bars to....?

Try it at a long jog training before deciding any changes with your energy stuff.
Thought I could save weight with a powder one mixing it as I pass checkpoints.
I have never gone this far before either.

I use Maxim (the original falvourless oen) for my long distance open water swimming. Beauty of it is that it's flavourless and can be mixed with anything (ie for channel swimming people sometimes put it in soup). Clearly this aspect is no use to you!! But that's what Maxim is.
I have just checked the Boots website and your right they do stock lucozade powder mix.
I shall head down to my local branch tommorrow morning, its a big store so hopefully they should have it.
Thanks!
worked a treat.
thanks for the pointers.
hadn't thought of pre-measuring it out for ultras.. good idea.
(also no problems with excess baggage weight)
...i think.
