Jem, I wouldn't do such a long run two weeks before a marathon. I'm using the 21 miles as my last really long run before FLM and that's another two weeks after Paris.
Snoop's doing Paris too and he's going for the 15 mile option.
I am just filling in the entry form for this one - does anyone know if I have to enclose a SAE with the entry form/cheque? I'm rather confused as it states on the entry form that the fee includes "envelopes and postage"......
Ummmm tempting. This isn't too far from where I live (Fleet), but I'm a little scared, 21 would be good prep for FLM, anyone thinking about plodding around the 9:30s???
You can decide on the day just as you approach the finish for the first time whether to stop at 15 or carry on to 21. You'll have just come up a hill so try to decide at about mile 14 and stick to it!
Have just had on-line application accepted. Plan to do the 15 miles, with Worthing the following week as preparation for FLM. The course says "undulating" - Does anyone know if it is that really hilly (like Steyning) or just a few gentle inclines?
Nothing too savage - one small hill to navigate towards the end of the short loop, so you'll hit that at around 14 miles (and again at 20 if you're doing the longer distance). Like I say, it's nothing really, it just feels like it when you've already got 20 miles under your belt, and that's all that stands between you and the finish line!
Undulating is an exaggeration - if you want undulating in Surrey/Hant's/Sussex, do the Ball Buster, or Meon Valley Plod.
I've just entered, though I'm having trouble finding any details about the race on the website(s). All they give is a map reference, which seems a bit arcane.
So, can someone enlighten me about where exactly the race starts, and what sort of surface do we run on?
The Start is about 50yds down Knowle Lane, off the High Street. Race HQ (last year, so I assume it's the same this time round) is in the Band Room which is adjacent to the Leisure centre. There's a big Car Park at the Leisure Centre, Just turn off the High Street at the mini-roundabout next to the village hall.
Race is 95% on road, there is just one short section of about 500 metres of unmade track (dis-used railway line) at the start of the shorter lap (so you'll encounter it twice if you do the 21 miler). It is dry and well compacted, so you don't need to worry about footwear - just stick with your normal road shoes.
I note Super Pootle comes from Godalming (didn't see you out pounding the streets yesterday in that torrential rain!) and others come from Elstead.
Am interested in knowing how many of us "locals" are either doing the Cranleigh 21 or if not Cranleigh this weekend, how many Surrey locals are doing the FLM?
Got my number a week or so back - 89. Although I could turn it into 68 if I want to conceal my real time...
This is my first race of this kind of length and the first of any sort for more than a year - so kind of nervous. And the weather is a wee bit worrying. Let's hope the gales have gone by Sunday.
belated participant in this thread - but...haven't the foggest what my number is, live in guildford and not running FLM (utterly rejected, again) and what a surprise with the weather, doesn't every Sunday forecast seem the same???
Live in Surrey-ish - New Malden, am doing FLM. Again. So glad I had the practice of running in cr8p weather at Fleet last week to prepare me for this one.

"We sent out your race number and instructions on 16th January. Unfortunately some runners haven’t received theirs
So we have contacted the post office they are carrying out a search! We’ll wait until next Monday then send out a replicate
number and instructions. Please let us know if you have received yours."
....
So if you haven't got your number yet perhaps you ought to contact them. I know I've had my number for a while now.

Hmm, still considering this one, although also considering the Gatwick Half as well. Can someone make my mind up for me please?
See a few of you there then!
Aim to do 21, but lets see how I fare after 14 to 15........

BUT...
I'm from Kent..
Can't make it to the Cranleigh race this year, but will be at FLM. I'm in Bramley... is that Surrey local enough for you?
I'm doing Cranleigh, and doing FLM, but I live in Hampshire.
I'm doing Cranleigh, doing FLM and ... I live in Surrey.
Another wet and windy Sunday to look forward to ....
