I am sure this has been asked before, but I am desperate to find somewhere near surrey/in south east/london where I can have a bit of a practice in open water........
What are the options ? There are a number of lidos around (tooting, hamption etc.) but was wondering if there were any lakes, reservoirs, or organised swims nearby. Willing to travel a bit for a good venue..

There is somewhere near M25 that does open water swimming, this link gives more info, this is the only place I have found, but I could do with something nearer to Lincoln, may have to opt for Skegness!
just booked in for an hour on Wednesday morning, its only a tenner and that includes coaching...
last chance to get some open water practice in before London !
Lindi
I see your coming to the London Social. Make sure somebody points out me or Candy to you and I'll give you the run down on London swimming venues.
Tooting Lido or the Serpentine are the main options but there are few others. But in my opinion if you train at Tooting then open water swimming in docks or lake will be a doodle.
Dave will look out for you at the Social.
I am sure I cycled past this junction on the way to swindon a couple of weeks ago, and got lost, ended up going through Slough, yuk ! How many traffic lights ??????
What I really need is some swimming lessons but all the pools near me only have lessons during term time which is a bit annoying.
Skegness fine if you don't mind swimming through all the condoms and beer cans.
Its open for swimming wednesday and Sat morning from 6:15 to 9 ( I think) @ 3.50 squids, and you can have a lessons (not on swimming technique, but on do's and dont's etc.) aswell. I did this this morning, and picked up a few tips, well worth doing once for the extra 7 squids.
Think I will def go down again next Wed, and maybe Saturday morning also, hangover dependant (i.e no chance ;-))
are you sure its open then?
Lindi, there were all sorts of shapes, sizes, and swimming styles there this morning !
Actually - I could probably do spinning, coz the bike's bolted to the floor!
it then fell over a lot :-)
