BLD - Trying to get up more often as it's so near. Doing Crinkle Crags again from Langdale. Got to go the right way this time and get this one out of my system.
Have you got memory map? It's good with GPS, you can upload or download tracks/waypoints etc. A bit expensive but I got it as a present.
Hope you get your team together for High Peak.
Caspar/Tim/Loz - If Loz is in agreement looks like Bog Standard then and we're in business!
Hi TB, I use Fugawi software. I thought about Memory map but the Fugawi covers more of Britain which makes it more versatile. It's not as good as Memory map, some of the data is suspect but you can plot and plan, download, upload etc so it is adequate. I might look again at Memory map and just get the lakes part. Today went well but took a bit longer than I thought, but it was good. BLD
BLD A bit misty early on but found right track this time. Likewise I took longer than expected due to terrain, averaging 3 mph. Hope high peak has parts you can actually run on - must get map of area.
I think the reality of this event is begining to sink in and am now thinking of more do-able races.
However, there is another High Peak Challenge 40. It is in September and looks a lot more friendly in that it is during the day and you don't have to carry all that gear - might be one for next year.
Someone has started a thread for this. Anyone any thoughts on this.
OK Caspar, I'll think about it for a few weeks and see what the others think. If written to organiser to ask if they let you use GPS - this will be a big factor, I may sulk if they don't!
Just received this e mail from High Peak organisers.
John,
GPS cannot be used by teams in the High Peak Marathon - Sorry!
However, teams are permitted to carry GPS in a bag sealed by race control before the start. This means that in an emergency they can break the seal and use their GPS although it would of course disqualify the team.

That's the final straw for this one as far as I'm concerned - plenty more user friendly events to aim for.
You were right ed! I'm just getting to grips with running long distances so navigating is a step too far for me at the moment - getting lost is too demoralising. Respect to those skilled in map & compass but I'm sticking with GPS.
No GPS's eh! well that doesn't seem fair, I'll have to rely on good old army training it seems!!! It's just persuading the others in the team that I can do it after all!? It might put a completely different slant on their attitude. Never mind I might be able to convince them. Onwards and Upwards(or down, whatever the squiggly lines mean) BLD
Hope people don't mind me mentioning on here but am putting on a race for my daughters special school at meerbrook in staffordshire over 15k on september 19th on a testing course if anyone would like to come and support us you will be made very welcome more info e-mail meerbrook15@aol.com

Who gets to carry the sleeping bag?

it depends on how heavy the sleeping bag is!

it's a navigation event...... navigate!
Or just follow the lights of Manchester and Sheffield

many thanks!
Right then we have
Me and Ed_M are up for this and with have Timmy R in reserve - who would rather stay in reserve.
Anyone else up for making a team of four?
