Good evenin all foots still sore, legs are tired but onwards and upwards!! what -steady 3 to and 4 from work why-tired ! last rest-sunday last hard-last night session ,listen to this for a weird one- 9x600s start every 3mins (averaged 2mins per rep) and then 2mile brisk!! (12mins) Enjoy!!
Hello all. Hilly- I also struggle a bit with marathon pace runs, on the treadmill I can stick to the pace but can't do the distance (too boring) on the roads I can do the distance, but since my SDM broke find myself dropping off the pace 15 miles is a long way to keep that speed up in training, no adrenaline and a "lumpy" route!Comfort myself with the thought that I am also still tired from Sunday.
What 15 miles in 1h 55 mins Why on the schedule Last hard Sunday Last easy Tuesday
hilly and Monique - I'm hugely impressed how you churn out marathon pace runs of this length in midweek training. these are always going to be very hard work - but well worth it. I've got mine coming up tomorrow (15M) but I'm dreading it - give me speedwork anytime.
hippo - please don't be so hard on yourself. you've been training like a demon and you're doing more than fine. never feel bad about having a rest when you need it.
Achilles- that makes me feel a bit better, you do start to wonder if perhaps the sub 3 hours is an over ambitious pipe dream! Glad I'm not the only one who finds marathon paced 15 miles very hard.
Hippo- I think you need to re-phrase the can't be bothered to something like am working a 54 shift so long that if an animal was made to do it there'd be an outcry!
Monique - I'm sure you're going to cruise through that sub-3:00 barrier by the sound of your training and racing.
BTW, some people prefer to break up the long marathon pace runs into "tempo intervals". Lidia Simon does this pretty nifty work-out which is 3x10K at marathon pace (or slightly faster) with 10 minute recoveries, and she reckons that's quite tough enough. I've tried this before as 3x5M with 90 sec. recoveries and it's much easier to hold pace and put in a quality session than trying to blast through the full distance. you probably get just as much benefit out of it this way and it's not so discouraging on those days when you're a bit off colour.
Good idea,Achilles, I'll write that one down. Having a couple of horrible hills en route (Soothill, Baghill- those who have done Woodkirk 10k will know Soothill) doesn't help. Next time I see that session I'll do the 3 times 10k version.
What: Six or seven steady(ish) with rucksack on my back Why: Had to find a way to 'slip one in' tonight - almost impossible. Only way was to get off tube early on way home from work. Very tired as I've been working till 1am and getting up at 7am. But pleased another one to cross off the list Last hard: tonight. Nearly killed me. Sore legs, the lot! Last rest: Monday
Well done all. Monique and Hilly inspirational as always. Benz, be kind to yourself!
Nothing today. Had a crap day at work, then came home to find John forgot to lock the kitchen door. Result - refrigerator raid and 2 sick dogs. By the time I'd cleaned up, got changed and gone out for my speed work session - my heart wasn't in it! so I gave it up and just did a short jog back home. Better luck tomorrow.
Ironwolf-I remember our dog getting hold of the shopping for the holiday-I think he ate 3 swiss rolls and a whole pate and left some teeth marks in all the tomatoes, mum and dad then had to drive to Wales with the dog farting like a trooper all the way!
What - 5 a.m. easy p.m. - set off with high hopes of 15 miles and knew within the first 2 I was knackered. Struggled on gamely up to 11 and a half - dropping well behind clubmates. When I finished it turned to be 7-20 miling, not too bad but felt worse.

Just got back from my test! Got 17.03.3 which is an average of 1.42.3 per 500m for those that use the indoor rower.
I felt sick near the end and my legs are like jelly now. Not to mention what they were like with 1200m to go. Still it's done and out of the way!
Recovery run in the morning me thinks. I'm getting to quite like this running lark. Even though I never go more than 10k.
