Glyco crashed 'n burned. The flu gave me a fever last night, hot and cold, woke up shivvering. Decided to run anyway. Not smart. A reasonable first 3 miles, just behind pug but not quite close enough to say hi. Then pains down both sides of my neck into my ears, then gradually got slower and slower. Legs like lead. Swathes of runners passing by. Wanted to bottle it at 7 miles but carried on. Got a 1:47. Way off par, not even close.

Motto: don't race with colds or flu, if you do, choose a dry day ;-). I hoped the Flu Plus capsules would enable me to run through it, but apparently not.

There's some good times posted though, well done everyone!

I've got Gosport 'arf in 3 weeks, then Turkey Trot 'arf 3 weeks after that. So next two weekends will each include a long one, to build my confidence back up. Sent the wife out to get the Chinese tonight... I'm poorly! :-) tee hee!

Thanks Suzy but it wasn't quite 3 hours.

Congratulations to Worksop Harriers for doing the impossible, making a loop run seem to be 12 miles uphill. (Yes I will say they were hills this year, before someone with the initials LMH starts) ;o)

In all honesty I cannot say I enjoyed it as it was my only half since last years Worksop. Time almost identical to last years (start to finish lines).

Congratulations on a well organised race. Your fellow marshals were very supportive.
I missed the 13 mile mark was there one?

You may want to consider having projected finishing time markers at the start area.
More portaloos may have eased the queues a bit. Some races have a half way marker and a count down to the finish e.g 400 yards to go.

Found it hard work today but enjoyed the event, I particularly enjoyed the section through Clumber and Worksop College. The road section up to the entrance of Clumber was quite sapping for me. Final finish time 2:09 not quite a PW but some 19 minutes shy of my PB.

It was Mick and Phil's 100th run. Amazing achievement !

Blade Runner, well done on the PB, that wasn't the easiest of course. Glad it rained though, would have melted otherwise, is it nearly November or August ? can't tell at the moment.

Will definitely be up for another recce run, it's a lovely route, but this time will actually 'Plan' to do a long run if you fancy a bit of marathon training.

Phew that's some pretty scary splits, have to admit was well chuffed with 7.58 for the last 1.1 mile which believe it or not is pretty good for me at the end of a half when I'm normally being overtaken by all and sundry, made a nice change to overtake a few at the end !

Although a bit crowded at the start which you can't help with the number of runners, thought the whole race was excellent , well marshelled, water stations, sponges and nice T-shirts...a big thankyou to all the people involved in the event, it's already in my diary for next year.

ps well done for getting the results on so quick

meant to say hi to Christopher day, your powers of obsevation are superb, how did you do ?

hmapplebeck - sorry your race didn't go to plan. I bimbled round just behind you in 2.06.something - still tired after the mara I guess, first 4 miles were sub-2 pace but then I ran out of batteries:-)

Great to be back in time to see Mick n Phil come home - didn't realise they were running this one.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

Excellent - just checked the results and I'm first LV35!

    Just one problem...:-)

Must have been an interesting results ceremony there, Thundercat:-)

Mark - 1:19 is excellent at Brid as that isn't the fastest course either? What do you put your improvements down to? I thought you looked really comfortable today when I drew alongside near the end.

My time was so shameful, I have become faceless... look my piccy has gone! I'll get it fixed with an updated image of my disease spreading, PB hope-dashing, 9 month old son. Fancy giving me flu the day before a half marathon. Git.

    Love him really :-)

Good to see you. Found it hard today and ended with 2:09 would have hoped for about 2hrs. The first road section was more undulating than I had imagined and I ended up running out of steam at 9 miles. However I still enjoyed the run especially the Clumber Park section.

    LMH

Sorry not to say hello you came past me at about 12.5 miles and you had gone before I realised it was you (from your shirt). Well done!

    Off to bed.....not happy :-(

Well I enjoyed that. First half marathon since February and first running race since April after a summer doing triathlon and duathlon. Did 1.49.15, which was inside my target of 1.50, some 10 minutes faster than Worksop last year amd my fastest for a couple of years. I just need to be getting back down towards 1.30 to get near my PB again. A big thank you to all the marshalls having to put up with that rain.

Ouch - my feet are still sore, 10 hours after I finished. My trainers are v. well ventilated, which is all very well for Summer runs, but every puddle splashes straight up into my socks. So the skin on the soles of my feet became as soft as putty by about mile three - leaving me with huge blisters by the time I finished.

I'll be running in wellies next year.

I dunno about anyone else, but I found the middle section (mile 5 to mile 12) really tough - there seemed to be more up than down, like that Escher optical illusion staircase.

That said, I was pleased with my run, because despite the humidity, strong sidewind out on the first 4 miles, and the heavy rain, I managed to shave over a minute off my P.B. That's 3 P.B.'s in my first 4 half marathons, so at least I'm heading in the right direction.

Does anyone know if Clowne is a good P.B. course???

I've added my time in below. That magic sub-90 barrier is getting tantatilisingly close...

Clowne is similar to Worksop Shaggy, maybe not quite as bad as the 'new' worksop route but it's not a PB course either.
