Athletic tracks

How far is it around an athletics track? As an answer to dark evenings I'm going to train at a local track once a week. I believe it it good manners for the slower runners to use the outside of the track so that is the distance I need. Are all tracks the same? I'll be using the Kingsmeadow in Kingston.

Hi Josie, Kingsmeadow is my local track too. The standard distance around a track is 400metres, but if you do run around the outside it's a little further. I can't give you an exact measurement, but you could be running about 450m a lap.
