Do trainers wear out quicker in the winter?

I have had to change my trainers this week having only done 500km in the last ones. The ones I had before them lasted 750km before i started getting sore feet.

Is this normal? Is it just because the most recent pair have been running through the winter and have been wet and mucky more?
