Goatee Runner, I wear the same running shorts (nike dri fit with innards, short version as opposed to just above knee which they also do) and I have done 20 miles in them with no vasleine and no suffered any chaffing at all, they are very comfy and I also wear these under my running tights as VPL has never really entered my head before.
Same shorts as what I plan to run FLM this year in. Never really suffered chaffing since losing weight so hopefully these same shorts will be good for the extra 6 miles.
I'm not sure about jockstraps - random straps round legs doesn't seem a comfortable / secure way to go IMO. I don't have any experience to go by though.
I met a guy running the FLM in just a thong. His problem seemed to be keeping stuff together in front - so much that mothers were shielding their children's eyes.
It's not a problem if you do what the rest of us do and wear something on top.
I found the Asics sports briefs pretty good with only minimal chafing after 26.2.....
Sorry Keef...thongs for men is all a bit new for me...it just doesn't sit right in my head. I'll give it some consideration when i can run far enough to actually induce chaf!
Keef...You convinced me to at least try a thong. If I wear shorts, I just wear the liner that most of them have, but I hate wearing underwear under tights because the fabric always bunches up, and I end up with nasty chafing.
what a hilarious post - I wear black running tights and would dream of venturing out in non thong pants in them. I can imagine the people thinking - look at the size of those pants... Mind it would reduce the tooting and shouting I suppose...
Bless Banbert for not even thinking about it... aahhh
I recently progressed into wearing g-string from thong. Feels more comfortable and I can't even feel like I was wearing it. I also get the benefit of good support and no chaffing.

I bought mine in America, where they are much cheaper, but you can buy them from Figleaves.co.uk, and a lot of other online underwear retailers.
More comfy than lycra shorts in your opinion?
And feeling less of a pansy?
Serious question...
A glimpse into male thinking..... ;-)
...and Lard Man, no I don't feel like a pansy. Those who have never worn thongs think they're uncomfortable, and those that have know they're not.
At the end of the day, it's just a choice of underwear, not such a big deal in my opinion.

None.
Why would you want to?

I always wear a jockstrap under tights ( and shorts). Best value is a style "guy" sold by kiniki in stoke, very comfortable ~ got one on now.
