DG - my flat-mates just bought me some massage ball thingys for my birthday so i will experiment with those too. i draw the line at yoga. i did buy a book once called "Yoga for people who can't be bothered to do it", but it turned out to be about some guy taking drugs in Thailand, and i got confused and gave up after 10 pages...
JJ - of course!
On a 25 mile ride, your thoughts turn to bikes, gearing and ultimate performance. The faster you go , the greater %age effort you have to put in to overcome wind resistance...so have the top riders reached the ultimate in performance? Are humans capable of more? If a rider was better than Lance Armstrong, would he need to push bigger gears than Lance does? What is a good TdF rider's top gear? How comfortable is he in that gear? Would a bigger gear help? If I got him on a bike with a low enough top gear, I could beat a top rider, couldn't I? It's not just about the engine, the transmission must play a big part, surely?
Disclaimer: i'm not wibbling and I'm not disrespecting the distance ;o)
i take exception to that.....
