i guess they have to exercise twice as long to get the same affect as runners....so less time to socialise(?). Also poor buggers must get pretty damp and cold in the winter, and risk coming off their bikes.
Richmond Park suffers from this problem. I ride through every morning, I pass about 10 people going the other way. There is one bloke who nods and says hello everyday ... the rest? Nothing, not even a discursive flick of the eyes. Ok, I ride a road bike, I go fast-ish, but that's not enough to get into the club ... I refuse to adorn myself with replica kit or wear a little hat with the peak turned up. And I cannot afford to spend a whole lot of money on an expensive bike. I'm just waiting for the day that I can cruise past these monkeys on my 'just above entry level' bike. Rant over. Don't really mind them actually...
I was a club cyclist way back when... and yes, I know Richmond Park very well - I find that generally MTBers don't say hello to Roadies and vice versa. But I am a happy a cyclist, generally well away from the speed scene now (sad to say though still seen in red polka dot top and matching Red shorts (a la 'Cipo' style).
Still like to show a clean pair o heels from time to time...
i had a friend at college who cycled around at lunch on his uni-cycle. used to go into town to fetch his lunch. you ever tried to cycle on one of those things.....impossible!
