What time did you do in your first marathon and how much have you improved since? Im just curious to see how people improve really not a case of boasting about time or how many you've done :-)
49 marathons done 50th and last this year. First was 4.04 in 1987 fastest 3.56 in 1992 slowest 5.05 in 1996 in fancy dress. Not getting any quicker thats for sure 3 ultras 2 x 90 km and 1 x 56 km
Im hoping the London crowds will pull me under 3.15 in April, clocked 3.20 in Tokyo just recently and dont feel exhausted but i guess I wont find out until the day. Will be great running on home turf regardless though
Doing FLM this year, not too bothered about time as I just want to soak up the atmosphere and get my Jelly Baby supplies at Mudchute (and I understand if you're unlucky enough to need a 'pit-stop' you can be queuing for up to 20 mins!).
But will do more. Loch Ness entered again this year and will do Lochaber next year.
I reckon ive got a sub 3hr marathon in me but i think i'll only get there over a number of marathons. Tokyo was my 2nd and i finished in 3.20. Hoping to go sub 3.15 in London before i leave them alone for a while.
I guess with experience you learn to train better, eat better and race better.
I'll have to give it a proper charge of the light brigade in London though, one last hurrah!!! lol
I've done 10. First (and slowest) 6:30-ish (pre-chip timing at FLM). "Fastest" - 5:17 last year, 6 years later.
If I trained more - consistently and quantity and quality-wise - I reckon 4:30 might one day be a possibility, but I'm not sure I want it that much. I'm built for comfort rather than speed.
About 5 road marathons (as in the 26 mile types)only ever done a fast flat course on three occasions (london and dublin)
first 3:12
best 3:06
worst 4:20, (which ironically I think is my best ever performance at 26 miles by a long way - as it was in the desert with 7Kg on my back after having done 110 odd miles in the preceeding few days.) The point being times dont necassarilly measure improvement.
Done a fair few ultra marathons (all off road) both staged and single day, about 15 or so.
Comments

First at Nottingham in 2005 - 3:46
Second at Abingdon in 2006 - 3:32. I put the 'improvement' down to a flatter course and 'knowing I could do it'.
Next will be Windermere in May - tougher route but, so far, I seem to be training better so who knows what may happen.
