towards the end of the OW season last year datchet were doing a swim with a buddy for an extra £5. no mention on the website about it. but if they offer it this year it'd be worthwhile for those who are a little nervous on their first OW swim. pretty much anyone i guess. although not a great swimmer i'm really comfortable in the water - but i still felt pretty panicy during my first few minutes.
Roll up, roll up for the first bacon sandwich party of the year! Saturday 5th May followed by 80 mile bike from my house, followed by pub for food and drink.
Afternoon all - I'm feeling a tad clueless with all this...
So what's the deal with the venue - turn up, get changed and go for a swim, like an indoor pool (within the times specified) or are there specific times you need to start on, in a gruop session?
turn up, get changed, pay your money and sign in and off you go!
They have mass swim start practices at Datchet too at set times you'll see people start to converge on the small bit of sand beach bit and then all run into the water together and thrash about a bit.
lol, I remember when I was proud of doing 40 minutes on the gym bike. Which isn't surprising as it was only about 18 months ago.
I was thinking at the weekend actually that this time last year I was scared about the 10K race I had entered and I hadn't run more than about 5 miles yet.
haha, i rememebr when i first got my recently stolen hybrid. rode 20 miles on it and couldn't understand why the forum didn't drop to their knees in admiration :-)
yes, when you get to the stage where you have to do a triple before anyone is really impressed you know you're in trouble. It's no wonder we're accused of scaring off new people really is it? It's only when you actually meet us and see that not only are we not super human, a lot of us are fat lazy gits that you realise that anything is possible.
That's what happened to me when I stumbled on here a year ago anyway.
Ta muchly FS and Meldy. Bit of a trek from east London, but good to get my feet wet again. And a lot better than my mates suggestion of the Serpentine.
I was thinking I'd get back into it first before I got swum over and promptly kicked to death in a mass start by the more eager back markers.

even the Channel is showing 9C at the mo..........
lake temperature 4C
maybe I'll wait until June...
4 degrees sounds pretty cold. especially as it was the warmest lake in england last year (i reckon). it got up to something silly like 22 degrees.
