Originally Bern's idea - a great one I think:)
The Six Nations done as marathons; Rome, Paris, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin.
Just wondered if anyone has done them all - and over what time span??
My plan, barmy as this may be, is to do them all this year...

I am as you know working through them but not in a year
I have London, Paris and Cardiff under my belt
I may target Rome/Edinburgh/Dublin next year
Dub is a problem though as its on an Irish bank holiday when I am in work
Rome, Edinburgh and Dublin would be nicely spaced marathons:)
I did have a similar ambition though to do a half marathon or 10k in England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales. (So far my only 'foreign' run has been a 10k in Dublin - but it's a start.
May now have to modify this by adding Italy and France to the list.
Once again, all the very best to you both.
last year i had a dublin place
and realised the half term was in work
I asked our boss - he was new and he blocked me
XL, you could do the Great Scottish at start of September. Its either a half mara or 10K (Glasgow).
Turned out, after weeks of questioning, that UK Athletics affiliation was all they required.
I've thought about the GSR - it's a half mara.
Can't do it this year, other plans, but it's a possibility for the future. Also have my eye on the Islay Half Marathon which is in early August - running and Malt Whisky in the same location - heaven !!
Boffin, is it just the European marathons that require certificates or signatures? I've entered the Amsterdam half marathon in October - do I need to look into medical issues, or can I assume that they would have made any requirements clear?
I think the Islay Half includes a 'social' after the event at the Bowmore distillery. Not sure the refreshment stops during the race are stocked in a similar way to the Marathon du Medoc. Would certainly be a selling point.
Run first 3 miles
Walk (slowly) all 'water' stations
Smile on miles 5 - 10
Walk (even slower) all 'water' stations
Stagger miles 11 - 20
Hang about at 'water' stations
Hold on to another 'runner' (read drunk) miles 20 - 23
Be forced to leave 'water stations
Crawl last 6.2 miles with a kebab, crying telling everyone you love them
Pass out on finish line
Sounds like my kinna race! :-D
where do I sign up:)
One slight hitch though, I'm pretty sure there's not going to be one in Cardiff this year (not surprising after last year's shambles). However, I think there's one in Snowdonia, look out though, very hilly!
Good luck you madman!
So we are organising our own!
Basically the idea is to run 13.1 miles to the start of the 'official' half marathon, which will take place as usual in October. Hopefully, if we can get enough press involvement, we might be able to get a company interested in reinstating the full marathon for 2008.
Check out the 'Cardiff marathon-who cares' thread for more details of the plans.
My linky things never work first time....
Cardiff marathon
4:14:42 - not the 3:45:00 I was aiming for, but it is a finish and one step on the ladder:)
Paris in 4 weeks!!!
a few times
Oh, and look, by shear coincidence you happen to be entered into a marathon there as well!
...not quite up to your standards yet Hipps, but working on it:)
3 down, 3 to go!!
Hipps - tell your hubby you want to take him away for a romantic city break - and then slip out early on the Sunday morning -he'll never notice! :0)
I intend doing Dublin (but I'm not entering until I can run properly again!) and maybe the Cardiff arf'narf depending how my summer training goes (if not I'll be doing the arf and supporting the 'narf). That'll leave Edinburgh and Cardiff 2008 if we get one.
There is an increasing possibility of Moscow next autumn (Tracey speaks the lingo and knows the City), anyone interested? From what I can make out from Google entry is free!
Bizarre isn't it? 3 days ago I was vowing never to do another marathon so long as I lived!
I am so easily swayed!
sadly, he probably wouldnt notice for the first 2 hours
Paris 4:55:30 in sweltering heat
2 down, 4 to go - I do hope there isn't a temperature trend going on here!!!!
am now doing edinburgh
))))))
