I have just eaten a plum and the moment I bit into it and tasted it it took me back to sitting up the plum trees in our Orchard when I was a child and gorging myself on them from the tree (funnily enough was never ill from it either!)
It made me wonder if other folks had tastes or smells that immediately recalled a situation.
The other odd one I always have is that the smell of methylated spirits always reminds me of Christmas; we used to supply turkeys and geese to people at Christmas and when we used to dress the geese after they had been plucked, we always singed off the downy feathers with a flame lit from meths. That was obviously done in the days just before Christmas so that is my 'Christmas smell'
What about anyone else?

Taste - strawberries - my grandad grew the most amazing strawberries.
Fathers garage when younger.
Cigar smoke reminds me of Christmas - my Dad always had a cigar at Christmas.
Used to walk to school via a footbridge over the main King Cross line from Cambridge. Steam engines in those days, and I can't get a whiff of a steamer now and not be transported back to short trousers and a satchel, football in the playground and fantasising about Caroline Hogg.
