I've always been crap at press-ups. Just can't do them.
Time to start on the Hundred Press-Ups programme and tone up my pipecleaner arms and manbooby chest.
Am I on my lonesome, or does anyone else fancy taking on the challenge and comparing notes on progress?
(IM ponces who can do 500 one-arm press-ups are welcome to heckle from the sidelines)

All the best with it.
I've restarted doing 50 press ups and sit ups a day.
Good all round strength work.
I can do fifty at a time but beyond 50 I start breathing like a steam train.
I'll give it a go.
Will it make me look like Daniel Craig?
Thinking about doing this, my legs hurt most of the time so hurting my arms might balance the pain out.
If it helps the reduction of moobs I'm in.
Start tomorrow
50
I can do 3 proper and about 10 on knees.
Muttley
Funny you should post this
Found out about that site t'other day and have started. I am pretty hopeless at them, even worse at the proper full version. Less carp at the modified ways
But i am going to give it ago.
When doing the full version my arms tend to lock and cannot bend them to lower body to floor
Well, I've just done the test. Embarrassing! If, as it says in The Programme, you're supposed to lower yourself right to the ground before pushing up again, I can barely do one! Lowering myself to about six inches off the deck, arms at 90 degrees, I can just about manage five. Any lower than that and the arms just lock and won't push for the return. And my wrists are hurting.
Oh dear. I'm definitely a left-hand column chap.
Starting for real with Week One on Friday, will probably repeat the first session on Monday to make it a Mon-Wed-Fri pattern.
(JB - if I've got moobs, does that mean you've got spaniel's ears?)
I need to start pressups, my arms are so flabby it looks like I'm wearing waterwings all the time. My excuse is I've got a dodgy left shoulder, so can't support my weight on that side.
Do I just start on one arm pressups instead?
I keep having little attempts at press ups ....... mainly to prevent the onset of 'bingo wing' syndrome.
I get to about 7 usually and then seize up. I did manage 13 the other day but these were the laydee type with my knees on the floor.
I try to do that exercise for the triceps too ... when I remember.
Same here, Pammie. The modified press-up with the knees on the ground I can do fine.
We'll just have to work on it
i can't even manage one either, but can manage a few in the modified styleee
not sure my shoulder is up to it but it may help in the long run so going to give it a go
my shoulders are hurting already just after doing the test...
Im in, I used to be able to do 100 when I was about 16, I think I can do about 30ish now and then collapse in a heap, do you think if I get to doing 100 it will make me feel like Im 16 again?????????
Not able to do the test yet as I'm still at work, people might think it's odd if I suddenly start doing press ups
I'm so glad I'm not alone in being biceptually challenged.
The big question is - who do we imagine beneath us as we do our press-ups? I bags Nigella
Kelly Brook for me!
Tonight
20 then 60 secs rest then

Before you start hating me - I've been doing them for a while.
The woman on the next mat gave me a funny look
is that because you were talking to kelly, jb?
i'm going to try this too, i'm a total weed in the upper body department. can't even do one full press up!
I drop down till me forehead is about 1 or 2 inches from the mat. Other than that I have no idea what my "form" consists of.
Plus I do it with Fred Elliott off Corrie straddled across my back.
ok, i've just tried, and i really can't do one 'proper' push up. so i'm thinking i'll do the initial test with the modified push up, then do the 6 weeks doing the reps with the modified pushups. then hopefully i'll be strong enough to do the full push up and start again. does that seem reasonable?
It does to me RD!
The side plank is the one I have trouble with - 1 and 3/4 mins is best I can do and never got any further.
a fred and kelly sandwich - the mind boggles!
on superstars the adjudicator used to put their fist sideways on the mat below the shoulder and the contestant had to touch their shoulder to that. if you are using your forehead to measure it's important not to bring the head forward - 'the spine must be in perfect alignment' (said in miss jean brodie voice)
Blimey, JB. I just tried two with nose almost to the carpet and my shoulders felt like they were going to pop their sockets. But I think my wrists are going to be the weakest link.
(Sounds good to me, RD)
that's pretty impressive, jb!! is that on hand or elbow?
i've just started studio pilates and they have a machine called a reformer, which is a series of ropes, pulleys and springs. it's completely mad. at one point today i was suspended by my feet with just my head and shoulders on the 'bed' of the machine. the spanish inquisitors would have loved it and i'm paying good money for the pleasure!
you could try the knuckle type they recommend, muttley - although that sounds painful to me as well.
thanks guys, i think i'll go with the modified plan then
