just spotted the thread, great I love this race as I like the fact that it is different and I like Saturday races. I really enjoyed running this last year as was my 1st Half (did the Birmingham as my second).
Will defo by up for entering this one, hopefully same numbers as It was just right the way we were all spread out (hopefully they wont be demolishing any Bean factorys this year - looked like I had been down the pit).
I remember it being a lovely sunny summers day as well - heres hoping
KAKS hello again I have been looking out for this race the last few weeks and began to fear it was not going to happen ! I seem to recall last year that we where going to have a canal barge full of 'refreshments' !!!!!
Looking forward to this, had to miss it last year, can't be too many hills on a canal. Then again I can think of one near Great Bridge, is that on the route?
depends on your opinion of where great bridge is to be honest. I have run it a couple of times and rode on my bike a fair few.. All I can say in the direction of the race its all downhill
GraemeK, no hills, I know the route well, there are three locks which are all 10' or so drops near the begining and lots of little canal bridges which are short (10') and a little steep and can throw your rhythm a little but apart from that nothing else. I live in Tipton just by Great Bridge and there is no hill, nothing round there. Also there is the tunnel which is fun.......
My entry form is in my draw filled in, just need to post.
Just so as you know if you enter via post we'll process your entry via entry central. It is a way we use to store our entry data and send you a receipt.. Runners world people get the same for runnersworld
Thanks Chris, I was thinking of the locks in series near the Asda at Great Bridge, we used to live near there when we were students, looking at the map I guess the route would be over the aquaduct at Dudley Port?
GraemeK, yes the route went over the aquaduct last year. The little bridges can break your rhymth a little and there is a 400m tunnel, which was lit last year but it is nessasary to slow a little in the tunnel, the tunnel is in Coseley if you know the area.
The tunnel was hilarious, quite dangerous really as it was only semi lit with rickety old hand rails and you could easily miss your footings on the uneven cobbles and end up in the cut.
I had to slow right down and of course you are holding everyone else up behind, that's what makes it different though.
Just working out which way to enter, judging by above, there are three dif ways ?
I really wanna run again, but the training iv'e put in for FLM 09 has nearly broken me. My IT bands are in pieces, got slipped Cartlidge in both knees and tendonitis in my left ankle.
Metro stop is at the next island round the ring road from the train station - not more than 5 mins walk to start. Is it an out & back or do you end up somewhere else ?
Stuart As Kevin says last year was point to point finishing in Brum. Easy enough to hop on the train back to Wolvo if need be. It was easy for me as I live in Tipton about five mins from the train station, not sure how other people faired.
Stuboy, last year the route just ran along the towpath of the Birmingham mainline canal from Wolverhampton (next to the train station) into Birmingham city center (Brindley place). Not sure which online maps would show this as no road involved.

Oh yes - sounds like a plan !
will have to be better prepared this year
NO its lovely and flat, its just a few of the bridges at the end that I remember (too many together on tierd legs).
Love everything about this race
me too, KAKS, last year it was just brilliant
just paid my £14.00 . . so I'm in
Had a look at the site last week, guess it must be up and running now then (excuse the pun).
Will have a look and book in as well. See you there !

I'm sure I'll manage this one

And they say running keeps you fit and well !
Sounds like you will be glad when April has come and gone.
How far is the start point in wolves from the Metro stop?
Noob, I can tell you from main train station it is pretty much a two minute walk.......not sure where the metro is.
Just entered on RW myself. Not done this before, really fancied it as a bit different to your normal HM's.
Stuart, my understanding, although not done it before myself, is that it is point-to-point finishing in Brindleyplace in Brum.
See you all there.

is there a map of the route somewhere for this? I'd be interested in doing it.
Thanks
Hi All, Best map at present to show the route can be found here http://wmcycling.webs.com/brumtowolves.htm With thanks to WMC.
