Well you name it, I seem to have had my fair share of embarassing conditions down below since I've started running. External piles last year and now a nasty sweat type, friction burn rash. My shorts are pretty lose and wick pretty well but I just wear ordinary knickers underneath. As I tend to sweat loads down below, am thinking that the sweat isn't escaping properly leading to the rash. Therefore anybody got any knicker recommendations. Wear Shock Absorber for bras but knickers anybody ???

another vote for commando - no nasty vpl or chafing.
Edit, was very tempted to write chaffing just to wind Wikie up
Yeah - commando for me too. Tried to find suitable running underwear in the past but have now given up.
LOL Shimmy!
Pedantic, moi??
I don't know whether they're specifically designed to wick but I've never had issues with them being hot......... Marks and Spencer's NO VPL tactel shorts are lightweight, comfortable, have cotton gussets, don't fall down, don't show under lycra....
They come in packs of 5 for about £12 and in various colour mixes and are generally marvellous for wearing under anything:

Can't see the point in wearing two layers, when you're trying to keep as cool as possible.
It's twice as much washing, too.
Commando is miles better.
Never been chafed wearing imaginary pants.....
Because unless they're specifically designed to be worn sans pants, shorts and tights often have seams in the crotch area, rather than a nice, soft, absorbent gusset?
I have shorts with a gusset which would be comfy without pants, but I'm not so sure about the tights and shorts that don't!
Because some thin tights show every lump and bump and I'd rather not be worrying about what can be seen through them?
Personal preference?
I'd say nutty1976 should probably experiment with different combinations (no pun intended).
Heh. I suggest we don't go there unless you want this to become a very hot thread!
To clarify, I meant different combinations of undies/shorts/no undies/shorts/ presumably not no shorts.

My lycra shorts don't have seams in the 'wrong' places, and do have soft cotton gussets, so I guess designed for wearing on their own.
The tights don't have the cotton gusset, but the seams are still not in the wrong place. I wear them commando in the winter. Who needs extra laundry to do?
I've never worried about my lady garden - should I start??
commando here, had unfortunate rubbing incident in first marathon, hurt the next day in a hot bath.
A friend uses mens wicking motorbike boxer shorts, no seems in the wrong places.
(hands wilkie pruning sheers )
I meant in the lumpy, bumpy worrying-what-about-what-can-be-seen-through the shorts sense.
I'm well acquinted with hot wax
what a looser.
Arrg what sort of thread have I started here well me bum is chaffed now rather nasty so I'll take a look at the nike knickers and the other suggestions and I think I'll start off with Lycra and commando when I next go out again on Sunday
TTN it really is so much more comfortable I'm sure you won't regret it and it's ok as long as you don't wear red shoes.
My mum always told me red shoes = no knickers (but that may just have been one of her little sayings)
PS. my tights have never fallen down...yet
*totters through in no shoes and red knickers*
TTN, if your tights have never falled down before, they won't start doing so now!
Going commando is a very liberating feeling
(I always thought it was "red hat and no drawers")
What is the problem with red? My mum taught me it's rude to write in red and now teacher's aren't supposed to use red pens, because kids are discouraged by it!
I like red.
I like commando better......
