Hi ABB - I'm in Taupo now, due to meet up with SP & TL tomorrow for lunch I think. Not sure that you will get much sense out of me on Friday, but Sunday could work - I am thinking victory breakfast (I hope!) Will drop you a text.
Congrats on the PB in the across the lake! That's brilliant - it is still looking pretty flat. I was laughing when I read the "warning" about how "cold" the lake was - at 19 degrees, that's bloody tropical. When I did A Day in the Lakes last year, I think it was 15 degrees, brrr. Aberfeldy I think was only 13 degrees, double brrrr! Not to mention all the swims in the Firth of Forth...
What happened to the weather though? This is the weather I want on Saturday, but it really should be sunny until then, I demand it
Me and TL arrived in Taupo on Sunday evening - we at registration thismorning. Getting the colly wobbles....
Meeting up with PUP and Ego shortly to register.
It's quite chily this morning, the lake has massive breakers due to a south westerly that's been blowing the last 24 hours. The forecast is for calmer weather but there's a low pressure to the north threatening to come over for Saturday. Bloodu marvelous! Looks like we've brought the weather with us....
Been out on the roads, some are a little rough - but not as bad as the Essex roads after the winter we've just had.
I am getting excited now! Will be driivng down tomorrow am, elite press conference at 11am, write up story and email back to office, conjure up some news story (economic impact event has on town etc) and email that to newsroom before 4pm, compulsory media briefing at 4.30pm then dinner at work's expense ($100 petty cash woot). Then set the alarm for an early, but not as early as if I were racing, start.
Victory breakfast sounds good. There are a few good places to eat in town as no doubt you have discovered. Name the place and I'll be there!
And forecast for Saturday had the wind as a southeasterly, which means headwind home as per usual. Was blowy up here this morning. Went for a short ride and was riding at 18kph until I turned around and was hitting 34kph no worries!
SP, Ego, PUP & any other Piratey types, good luck for Saturday!!
Will be watchin as much as I can online!! Unfortunately I can't stay up all night to watch as I have to be somewhere early Saturady morning. Will be willing you guys on though!!!
Looks like its going to be dry but breezy for you.
I shall be tuned in tomorrow evening for the start, early Saturday to catch up but will be away from the pc from about 07.45-1100 but will be thinking of you all.
Have a great day
Copied from IM website, taken from IMNZ Iron Ramblings - Top Jobs It’s official. Don’t get sick here in New Zealand this week because there’s no-one to see you. They are all competing. The occupation with most entrants in Saturday’s race is the medical profession with 102. There will be some calculators having a rest this week because there are 71 from the finance industry racing along with 54 from the services (including 32 police). There are 50 business owners or company directors, 45 in IT, 40 managers, 38 engineers, 37 in sales and 34 in construction.
There are 37 teachers in the field – and 37 students. We have one barista – and also one whose profession is coffee drinker – they need to team up. We have a minister and a rabbi. There are four who work in taxation and one who is a pirate – make that five in taxation.
And for those planning on following events, race start 18.00 Friday UK time, finish cut off (17hrs) 1100 Saturday.
It was nice to meet you earlier today, I spotted that pirate jacket a mile off! I saw punch & tired legs at the bike racking hoopla later on, we offered them a lift back to their hotel, but they had to fight for space with my enormous bike bag taking up half the bloody car sorry about that chaps. as I said, my head has been all over the place this week, not a coherent thought to be had, I forgot it was even there.
I should try and get some sleep now.
Gah! all my supporters in the UK are going to be pinned to ironman dead over their bacon sarnies on Saturday morning waiting to see if I can go the distance. Yikes. I better deliver the goods.

Just been for a calming walk. Off to bed now. Head all over the place - know about those incoherent thoughts!
It's funny - we're in hotels about a couple hundred yards from each other and comunicating via a website based 12,000 miles away!
Lake is calm at the mo - hopefully will stay like that till around 9am tomorrow morning. I don't give a $h*t what the weather throws at us after that!
Thanks for all the support from you guys back home - but don't stay up on our account!!
race well and strong everyone
going to be kicking off soon
GO PIRATES

Conditions on the lake look great - flat calm if it wasn't for 2000 swimmers churning it up!
