Hiya, any recommendations for a flat(ish) middle distance tri next year? Nothing against the hills but it would be nice do one where you're not just going up or down!
The Couples was flat on the swim and bike - run had a little bit of up and down but nothing to write home about. Very well organised too (it was the first running of it this year)
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
The Cowman is pretty flat - a couple of hills on the bike leg but nothing to worry about really, and the run's OK too. Not as flat as the Swashbuckler, but a nicer swim.
Thanks for the suggestins, liked the look of the Swashbuckler until I saw the price tag, ouch! The Cowman sounds good though couldn't find the price tag for that ..
I'm looking for a half as well. Want a nice calm swim though !! My list so far is Bala, Trentham, Eastnor Little Woody looks nice and like the thought that you can blend in with the ones doing the Ironman length. I couldn't find anything on the Cleveland Steelman. Willl look at Cowman.
New HIM event coming to Ely next year, swim will be in The Great Ouse, only other place to have hosted the boat race, the swim will be a point to point with the current. The bike course will be a single loop, and flatter then a flat thing on a flat day. Tho if the wind is blowing it will make parts of the course quite tough.
I know all this, as I know the people setting up the event, and am helping in a small way. I am happy to post more details as they are released, if people want me to.
try Marshman in Kent - on the Romney Marshes. the bike has a few lumps but nothing to worry about and the run is as flat as they come - I don't think I know of a flatter 1/2 marathon anywhere. The downside can be wind - the area around Dungeness (the race HQ is in Lydd not far away) and the Romney Marshes is notorious for wind - hence the new power windmills! and there is always a wind at some time of the day.

I did say in my post that the swim was with the current, turns out the swim will be against the current. So swim will be a bit tougher then first thought, but the bike is still going to be pancake flat. The run is also going to be mainly off road, folllowing the course of the river on a out and back run.
2nd comment on the Cowman, did this a couple of months ago in prep for the Outlaw. Nice race and no worrying hills only one short climb to be completed on each loop (3 loop race) and the run has a couple of up slopes but nothing like run at Bala.

Cleveland and The Couples are a bit far for me.

have done it twice - been windy both times.

GOM - might look at that race in Ely....
Trentham is not flat, it was, but then they changed the bike route, 5 laps and pretty hilly plus its 58 miles now.
