Its a decent race and course but thats a little steep. Will most likely give this a miss. Also the organisers last my marathon entry a few years ago and havent forgiven them.
I'm a sucker for the bling and try to enter only races where a medal is on offer so expect to pay a bit more but if I have a choice of races cost is obviously something I consider which is why I've picked Marlow over Reading next year.
I started my proper training a few weeks back but my first half is at the start of March. I'm moving to 4 runs a week this week to get me over 30 miles. I'm hoping for about 1:45 at berkhamsted and then getting a bit quicker as the year goes on. I have 9 halfs lined up for the year finishing with abingdon marathon in october. Aim is to get under 1:33 at half and 3:30 for abingdon.
On your own with this one Lurker, I fancied it this year (running I mean !) but I have a 140mile bike ride the weekend after so saving myself for that.
I've only just looked at the course route (had just assumed that it was the same as it's always been), but have noticed the start isn't on Waterside, but is actually on high street/chapel st with a different loop around the town (past Shakespeares Birthplace).
I missed last years race (was running london instead), so is this course change new for this year? or was it like this last year as well?
The course change was made last year when the building work around the theatre and Waterside was ongoing. I don't know why it hasn't switched back. The new loop is fine although the congestion around the area at the bottom of Henley Street (I think) was pretty bad last year. Of course you will be a lot closer to the start than me so maybe that won't affect you .
Good luck for tomorrow everyone and may it stay dry for us!
So how did everyone do? I was very happy with my 1:39 as I'm not really putting the training mileage in and it showed from about mile 10. Only 3rd time I've broken 1:40 so very pleased.
Did anyone else think they were faster that their official time? Im sure it said 1.42 on my watch as i crossed the line, but when i saw my time on the notice board at the end it said 1.44. Its a PB either way, so im not too fussy, but 2 mins is a fair bit of difference. I suppose if id actually stopped my watch as i went over the line, that would have been helpful, but i was very tired and pressing small buttons with tired fingers can be tricky.
Andy, you probably saw the GUN TIME which, depending on how far back you started, may be quite different to your chip time. My chip time in the results was spot on my watch time.

I think the silver medal is solid silver though and therefore worth more
And considering the Bath half is £36 !!! this does feel better ! Getting weaker and getting ready to sign.
Just entered - my first 2011 race entry! )
Go on Chris... you know you want to ;o)
Richard, Still thinking about it, but have a cyclying event the weekend after 200km so got to think about that.
Well done Richard.
Compared to a 200km cycle ride Chris 13.1 miles should be a walk in the park
just spotted my training schedule starts next week !!!
i have entered,
back from injury so not sure how i am going to do - last year was a disaster and led to me pulling out of a marathon as i knew i couldn't do it
so
onwards and upwards comrades
or i suppose that should be
"once more into the breach"

Half marathon lot easier than 140mile bike ride across the south downs I think !!!!!
there are 3 threads looking for places and i have had one personal offer for my place
i entered in december
it always fills fast

Hi Richard
