I think it's an age thing. I find that I can't deal with the hangover as well, but I'm sure it's not just the booze, it's the staying up late that throws me as well. even if i don't hit the drink heavily, being out until the wee small hours knocks me sideways for days.
I realise that makes me sound about 90, but I'm not. Honest! Will someone pass me my slippers?
1&2 for sure - I'm in the same boat. Had a stag weekend last weekend and it took me 3 days to recover. I'm sure the extra lard I used to have soaked up more, then again maybe I'm just old. Then again I drink less now I'm running so maybe it's just out of practise?
Dehydration. Drink a pint of water before you go to bed.
I can't handle alcohol much any more. I'd go with No. 2. Not that I've lost any weight myself. I'm not going to admit to being old even though I am. My sister is a lot bigger than me and older than me and can still handle her drink.
I also think it's cutting down big time on the amount I drink.
Age and being a bit out of practice for me - lack of sleep is a killer too and I really don't sleep well if I've been drinking. I've just had an old friend staying for the weekend: two nights drinking and staying up late = me feeling pretty crappy right now
I've just been on a 'boys' (we're all in our 40s) weekend in Monmouth, paddling up and down the river Wye and drinking on the Saturday night. The combination of lots of exercise, curry and alcohol is lethal for people our age. Should be a law against it.
I get just as hangovered now as I did 15 years ago but before I had no trouble working despite a pounding head and continous vomiting now I have to stay in bed/on the sofa.
Personally I just think I can't cope as well with suffering as I did when younger.
I'm not touching the Guinness EVER AGAIN! The hangover was phenomenal, I had to get on a plane with it.
I don't want to feel like that ever again, thanks.
Definitely out of practice, have cut down big time. Don't fancy getting back into practice either, thank you very much. I doubt my liver's in a particularly good state.
We went out on Friday evening. MrANTB is still feeling a tad under the weather this morning. Other than a bit tired (being drunk makes me an insomniac, it's horrible) I was ok on Saturday, but then I wasn't drinking stella, I was on gin which is almost purity.
I think its getting older and realising what a total waste of time it is to spend the whole of the next day unable to move from the sofa and trying to sip water and nibble dry toast without throwing up.
Age is definitely a factor. Never had a hangover until I hit 21. Well at the time it was a 'hangover', but compared to some I've had a few years later it didn't even register on the scale.
Last good drinking session I had was just over a year ago & I felt pretty rough for a few days. That definitely put me off drinking & have barely touched a drop since.
Still feel rubbish today although I am now eating loads which is a good sign.
I am never drinking again etc etc.....
As Xine267 says - what a waste of time. I spend all my life struggling to juggle work, family and training and then bang - 24 hours of lying on the sofa moaning. Stupid, stupid, stupid
My brother had his first hangover when he was 31. He phoned me that night (no one was talking to him at home, his behaviour the night before had been so norty) to ask if he had a hangover or was he actually dying and should he take himself off to hospital?
The worst hangover I ever had was from illegally produced Potcheen in Galway- cripes, I spent the best part of 3 days alternately hanging on to my bed and hiding under it. I didn't stop puking for a week; every time I had a glass of water I was pissed again. I was 19 and never drank a drop of hard liquor for about 15 years after.
I think the worst in terms of pain was actually when I was 22 - drank 2 bottles of port - worst headache I have ever had. These days (decades later) they just last way too long - unless I can force myself to run (kill or cure scenario!). Glad you're recovered Mr Spoons - anyone for a drink?
Comments
Maybe you just drank too much
I have a hangover myself today and think it is the age but it's probably just the wine....

ohhh! That bad?
Yup, that's just the booze. no possible age related degenarative excuse possible there - unless you thought you were still 21 and were showing off...
Me?
Possibly.......

When I was younger it was never a problem, but now I'm ancient....
I also drink a lot less than I used to so I guess I'm out of practice.

Anyway - my hangover has now officially gone Just ran 9.5 miles + weights + core. Feel much better.
