never been to box hill so idea of the situation............but obviously room for 3500 people.....bit of a shame that they state standing room only.....no facilities for disabilities..................surely one small area could have been provided and allocated the same way as the other 3500 places............
Box Hill is an AOSB thingy and has some delicate wildlife and rare plants they want to protect from hoards of people.
I am planning on going to have a look as fairly local and the cycle path along the side of the A24 Dorking to Leatherhead will be open to the public so I can cycle there.
They could have space/facilities at the top but it isn't really practical on the hill itself as the verges are quite narrow and then very steep slopes up/down on either side of the road. There is one small car park that may have allowed access for disabled part way up but no facilties and would be far from ideal.
I may try to find time to scoot down for a look as it is less than 3miles from home.
I'm just going to wander up the road and watch as they go through Richmond Park. The leaflet that's been sent round seems to suggest we'll be landlocked by the race!
Wouldn't it be funny if they got the loop the wrong way round!
Must admit, my thought is to work on an MTB route to watch some of it. Plenty of routes around the area. The footpath by the Westhumble underpass might be quite good?
I was wondering whether it would be possible to get from Dustboy corner back over to Headley heath to catch them in two places, but can't (yet) quite see how to do it.
We've just been circulated at work with the business version of the cycle newsletter- in this version it has them ascending the zig zag road. Perhaps they are setting out some sort of cyclist powered Hadron collider type experiment?
As an aside, We were at the Tri event last weekend, and found a cheap and cheerful hotel in Lancaster Gate for £120 B&B for the night for the pair of us....
...Trying to book a hotel to cover the Tri next August every hotel in the area is looking at over £250 EACH a night
I went to see how they did the right hand turn at the bottom of Star and Garter Hill in Richmond. The answer was "slowly". Was good fun, saw them go back through the park too.
Comments
There are road closure signs all around here. Are they doing the full 9 laps of Box Hill for this or is it a cut-down version?
huge dangly arse underneath
As I understand it , although it's the full course they'll only be doing 2 laps of Box hill.
Numbers on the zig zag road will be restricted to 3,500. Entry by wristband only.

Meface.
As I understand it, it's a full dress rehersal, so barriers, road closures etc as on the big day.
This http://www.gosurrey.info/assets/documents/residents-cycle-newsletter-is seems to suggest Box hill should be open after 2pm if you fancied a blast.
Edit: The road map has them descending the zig zag? I'd kinda assumed they'd be climbing that bit.

Would that be the HEDron collider? 2 routes shown on the gosurrey.info site alone!
If I am about, would be interested in Ferret biscuit powered viewing by MTB.
I THINK you can get to Dustboy Corner on MTB track from Newlands Corner.
It's only a couple of miles. I might do a recce in the next few weeks.
Who's coming out to play for this?
Jaffa - I think a few of us will be there - Ferret, Holly and I and a few others I think - but not exactly sure who. Helpful I know.
Thanks Ditchy
My plans are about as fixed as that at the moment as well

Cor blimey guv..... *eyes up boutique hotel potential of small spare room up three flights of stairs not particularly near a tube station*
We've got two spare rooms, only one flight of stairs and close to a mainline BR station.
<shoos Toucs out to live in the greenhouse>
Just drove along Headley road. They've got a very impressive stack of cushion/bales at that nasty Box Hill Rd/Headley Rd junction.
Might just have to pedal out there tomorrow to see how the pro's negotiate that corner.
