I'm considering in getting involved in Ultra Marathon running but races in the North East of England seems quite limited.I was just wondering if anyone knew of any clubs, races or links which mght be useful.
I just noticed your post as I was posting this about a Yorkshire Ultra Race.
Just a quick heads up on the Rosedale Ultra to remind everyone of the Rosedale Rumble this coming weekend. 13, 30 and 40 mile distances. There are 125 competitors registered for this inaugural race, so the event is looking to be well attended. Race starts at 07:30 on Saturday at the Hutton Le Hole village hall in North Yorkshire.
I like the look of those avid runner ultras. Quite tempted by the tyne one in September. The 4 cities one could be quite a challenge, having to run through middlesbrough or sunderland in the middle of the night could throw up all sorts of interesting scenarios.
I plan to host a 50km fat ass next year. Starting at Penshaw monument and heading past the angel of the north, Tanfield Steam railway, Causey Arch, Beamish and then back to Penshaw. Will be around the 50km mark and will run the route in early May or late August. Will start publishing the route in the New Year. Was supposed to be doing this now, but man flu has claimed my Christmas running.
Yay to the Fatass! I reckon the way to go in these cash-strapped times is to sort out something with mates and self-support. The brief route overview sounds intriguing - deffo in for it.
Saying which, I have an entry for The Wall, which will be my first ultra event.
My plan after that is to run St Cuthbert's Way in the autumn - reckon Mrs Bees will fancy a night in Melrose the night before, and another on Lindisfarne the next. Just need to convince her that she'd like to lunch in Kirk Yetholm and that's the half-way support point taken care of.

Apart from the usual NE clubs that members do frequent marathons, there is also the NE Marathon club who have put together a local marathon season.

I don't know of a specialist ultra club in the area - joining a club is a good idea if only for some company and proper coaching
Where to you live in the toon?
North - Gosforth Harriers
Central - Claremont RC
West - Elswick Harriers http://elswickharriers.co.uk
East - Heaton Harriers

I've booked myself into the Northern Cities Ultra in Sunderland on June 29th (40 miles). There is also 60 & 100.

Anybody else thought of doing this one? The 'AvidRunner' forum has no activity on at the moment.
Cheers
It would be nice to see a published route for these runs.
I don't like to enter races without knowing what the route would be like.
I pulled out the Hadrian's wall run when I found out it hard large sections on public roads.
