Yes it was a little congested at the start. I ran a 3:33 first km compared to a race average of 3:25. This was due to people I later found out running 40 mins and upwards setting off to fast then slowing within 800m and there not being enough space to weave through them at my natural pace.
However after that it was a fine course and the flip side of a busy race was that there was always someone to chase down for the next 9km. I ran my fastest time for 3 years and my best as a V40. An excellent day out. They even managed to hand out the prizes for a race starting at 9.30am just after 11am. Very efficient.
My time wasn't registered on the results, I'm rather disappointed by this. I've emailed three of the contacts on the organiser's website, but have had no reply. Has anyone got any suggestions? I have a rough idea what my time was because my friend finished just behind me, but I'd rather have an official time...
i think there is a race Facebook page as well...but dont know for sure.
sounds like you have a similar issue to somebody i ran with. They didnt get a chip time only a gun time. Which sounds as if the chip didnt register crossing the start line. Not the end of the world you might think but the gun time was 35.01 and they havent gone sub 35 before its a big annoyance. They were comfortably under if the chip time had had worked.
Erm, yes it would have been. For reference my gun to chip time was 34:14 and my chip to chip time 34:10. Similarly my wife's gun to chip time was 39:19 and the chip to chip time 39:13. Fortunately for us our chips worked on the start mat. Unfortunately for the feller who's gun time was 35:01, his did not.
Thats fantastic, i'd never checked this thread previously so a big thank you to Dean and BR for arguing my case - 34.55 sure sounds alot more satisfying than 35.01, not since i was but an innocent teenager did 6 seconds of performance difference prove such a let down but alls well that ends well
Now i just need to get it updated on po10 which will only take until about the time the race takes place next year!

I'm doing this again.
Got Dewsbury 10k the week before it too after that had to be rearranged due to the snow.
Hoping to go under 40 minutes for 1st time at one of them
I've heard the start can get a littlecongested. Anyone know if that's true?
I did it last year, there is a bit of crowding at the start but it only lasts a few metres once you get through the start line.
There are videos of the start on youtube so you can see for yourself
me too!

Don't worry about the chip time, it won't be under 35 minutes as the chip they use always adds a few seconds on anyway
Amended results are now up on www.altrincham-athletics.co.uk
The runner with a gun time of 35.01 has a chip time of 34.55.
