We open our lake the week after a commercial swimming lake opens up (they measure their water temperature - we just jump straight in). We're guessing mid April at the moment.
Can't happen soon enough though - getting so bored of lengths in the pool.
Just for the record, will be looking at training venues at Mytchett Quays, Thorpe Park & Shepperton this year.
Mytchett, Wed eves, 400M weedy course as soon as the sun comes out. Has carvery though! Changing is primitive at best.
Thorpe, the Daddy. Tues eve I think. Warmish, 400, 750 and 1500!! loop. Pyramid up and down and your 3.8 done (400,750,1500,750,400). Gets weedy and a bit manky come full summer. Changing OK and a cafe hut.
Shepperton, nice private lake, NO WEEDS! 400 & 750 course. Basic but we liked it last year. And you have to do a swim test before they will let you on it! Ha ha. Can combine with a brick run around the lake. Changing OK.
Not that I'm going to bother with any swim training this year...............but I'll have to come and try out Shepperton this year as well as you guys rave about it so much, Heron Lake will also get the benefit of my doggy paddling custom, weedfree 1k loop, great bacon butties, and money raised going to the BDWSA, 3 great reasons to go there.
Oh do come to Shepperton, Jaffa. It's fab - really pretty and not too busy. Nice bunch of peeps that run the sessions too. It was my first OW swim season last year and I loved it!
The lake in the next road from me opens early May but I'm planning to do some voluntary weeding next Sat and will get to swim after for about 30 mins or so.
Twill be my first OW swim of the year in my brand new wetsuit.
In the Blue, I lied to you about the sea temperature being 10°C at the weekend. It was actually only 8°C as measured by someone else who went in at the same spot earlier in the day.
Rivers are warming up already. 11°C yesterday in the Hamble.

errrm - that will be a no for a couple more months yet
I see Salford now has swimming Mon, Tues & Thursday evenings from Mid April
Manley closest to me is May 1st
I wouldn't be swimming in Salford Quays for any amount of money!!
I'm tempted by the sea FB even though it's a bit of a trek, will have to see if Supercaz is up for it as she's mad enough to be in the sea now
Don't know why not, 3 nights a week OW swimming, hot showers, and a clean water certificate. It's a lot nicer than some places I have swum

As you may have seen on the news we have a water shortage in Essex so we have no lakes to swim in.
Yep - we asked them at the Triathlon Show......
I have neoprene gloves and a hat - what could possibly go wrong?
Anyone going to go be swimming at Copthorne this year?
Hope the biting insects and weeds are a little less prevailant this year compared to last!
