I'm in need of a good front light as I'm planning on doing an all nighter next weekend on country roads and going on current weather wet or cloudy. Needs to be a non rechargeable so AA/AAA. I've been looking at the LED Lenser B7.
Is it good enough for the job?

Depends how much you want to spend. I've got one of these and it's great: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/hope-vision-1-led-front-light/. Takes 4 x AA batteries, so you can use normal disposables, but would recommend getting hold of some decent rechargable AAs. Having the clamp as part of the light rather than a bracket you mount on the bike makes it very easy to swap between bikes if you ride more than one.
Thanks for that but reading the reviews and tech spec it doesn't look like it can manage 8 hours straight.
And you can't have bright and long lasting. If you want 8 hours you'd probably need 4 sets of batteries.
Sounds a cool idea for a ride though. Hope you get nice weather.
Hello Cougie, Dunwich Dynamo next weekend a bit of research for PBP. I'm thinking recharging along the way might be tricky, not next weekend, in the later. You can bet the weather will be crap. : )
Ok need a bit of help on this. How many lumens do I need?
I use a torch similar to one on here :

2 issues, can I get this before next weekend? And run time? Need 8hrs without a battery change. Looks like what I'm after doesn't exist.
just get a used exposure light (joystick, enduro max or six pack) off ebay. resell it when you're done. that way you'll ahve a decent light in time for your ride.
ah, missed the non-rechargeable bit.
8 hours with no battery change ? I think it can be done - but at a cost...
Check out some of the mtb forums for their enduro lights.
Hmm, on reduced power they ain't so hot but last ages, On flash mode the deal Extreme flash on full power and last ages but it's a bit Cloverfield/Witches of Eastwick. TBH, I'd go two, they are only 30 quid each or summat. I easy get 4 hours on full power out of my single lens. Bingo?
Next weekends ride is really R&D for a ride a bit further down the road that involves riding through the night for three consecutive nights and days hence not being able to recharge but I can carry spare batteries and buy AA/AAA's along the way.
Yeah I was looking at some of the setups on BR ...£600! I don't think so.
OK, go to www.dealextreme.com and input cree into the search box. They have a number of flashlights running off aaa or aa. Cree are the LED super bollox stuff used by Enduro type stuff but chinese made and cheap. They are about 20 quid each. Mine is brilliant.
