I've got lots of the horse brasses, collected over the years, but have only put them in a bag, together with my medals etc. I believe you can purchase a leather strap (can't remember what it's called) to fix the brasses to, at the information tent.
I see entries are full already. Luckily, I received an e mail from the organisers early in the year, and I entered on line. I believe it's popularity is because it is classed as a trail race, and these are becoming increasingly popular, due to the demise of many road races.
I read in one of the local papers that they are going to resurface the entry road into the field, so,providing it is completed before the race date, should make for a much smoother drive up to the parking area.
I've received my race no. and chip, and note that the chip has to be threaded through the laces. This means that I won't be able to wear my Salomon Trail Shoes, as they don't have tie up laces. In previous years, the chip has had a velcro strap which fitted round the ankle. I suppose the lack of a strap is yet another example of cost cutting.
Terence - I suspect the lack of strap is because the vast majority of people have shoes with laces and don't use the velcro anyway? Why not (a) buy some velcro tape or (b) contact the organisers to see if they will have any there on the day or (c) use string/insulating tape round your ankle?
I have a pair of them Salomon Trail Shoes, but i can't get them on because the tongue in the shoes won't go back far enough. There's no slack. They were given to me by Salomon, i didn't buy them.
This will be my first 'track' or off-road race. Would it be a good idea to wear my new Gel Excel 33 minimalist shoe, or stick with my normal quite cushioned running shoes which are 1170s? Thanks
I ran in Asic 1170's last year, and have worn earlier versions in previous years with no problems. This year, the going is likely to be heavy underfoot in places, so I wouldn't recommend a minimalist shoe.

It has every year so far, so I presume it will again this year.
Yeah the place where they have the NF show. Looking forward to another commemorative horse brass to add to the collection.
I've only got the one horse brass, but will be adding to it this year - it's a nice event.

oh dear ive missd it. I was doubtful anyway as it is on my birthday.
I have just entered online, payment has been taken so I must be in ???
The event details on the RW page states "race full" so this appears to be misleading. I hope that I haven't put anyone off who is attempting to enter.
I have just checked back and it no longer says race full, so there has obviously been some sort of mix up.
thank god for that.. .
I'll enter now.
Done this last year and really enjoyed it.
Can remember horses running beside me at points.
I remember passing the ice cream van last year

I wonder if it will be as hot as in previous years, or "blessed" with the heavy rain that is currently ruining our summer.
Yeah it was pretty hot last year, but plenty of cloud cover if I remember correctly.
Hopefully it's a nice day, I plan on coming down with my family and having a BBQ after.
If it's wet i'll drive down on my own, run 10miles and drive back.

What about using a cable tie?

I think your 1170`s will do as the tracks are stoney.

Thanks Terence and Mr. K. Looking forward to this one!
One of the best races in the south! Can't wait!
Can't wait to get out on my feet Sunday! Might go for a light run tomorrow - just incase I've forgot how to run!
Trippr - where do you hear that? Any more details?
The field is waterlogged.
Waiting for official confirmation
Yepp ... unfortunately now confirmed on the club site http://www.newforestrunners.co.uk/
Just to boing this back to the top of the thread list: Yes the event is cancelled, sadly.
Yes, I have also received an e-mail from the Organisers. They will review the situation in a few weeks time.
hopefully will be rescheduled for next three months
