For those of you that might be interested, Long John Silver, In the Blue and myself are attempting to swim across the English Channel as a relay team in the next few days. We could be going any time from this Thursday until next Thursday depending on the weather.
I'll post when we get the off, and if you want to follow our progress then have a look at http://www.shipais.com/index.php and type 'Pace Arrow' into the ship search. Click on the boat name and it will take you to a map of where the boat is. I believe that there is some delay in updating the website so it will probably be an hour or two behind where we actually are.

Thanks caz...........good luck...........you will be great hope the tide is kind to you all..........I would love to swim in the channel......but in a wetsuit and i would only want to do about an hour

Pace Arrow doesn't have a dedicated GPS so I will have to find out which one we have on the day.
Good luck with that SC. As somebody who can just about manage a length of a 15m pool it's an awesome thing to do in my book.
GOOD LUCK!!!! Will be thinking of you!! xxx
good luck SC - hope you get the right conditions. I guess you're doing an hour stretch at a time???
one of the guys who works for me has a Channel relay scheduled for 2 weeks time - he's dreading it. he's a great swimmer but with the cold water he's found staying in difficult as he hasn't got a lot of insulation - he's only managed 45mins max so far. he's eating like it's going out of fashion to try to lay down a layer of fat but I fear it's not working. I think he's secretely hoping that the weather will be too rough so they can't go!
Good Luck SC! I hope that you get through in a decent window and arent left waiting for too long!
Thanks for the links Caz - we can cyber stalk your progress! Wishing you all the luck in the world - you'll be brilliant
Go girl, heres hoping for favourable conditions!!
wow, good luck
Very best of luck, hope the weather works for you.
Good luck. Please keep us posted and I look forward to following.
Will do a sun and no wind dance for you
Good luck Caz, wish you three all the very best. Can't wait to track your progress xxx
Oooooo *does nervous excited dance*
Good luck
Have fun.
Fat Buddha, does he know that he needs to do a 2 hour qualifier before he can be accepted on the team? He's really going to suffer if he has only done 45 min.
Good luck and try and enjoy it - I'm sure your all prepared and will have an experience to remember. Just praying for the weather - be nice to have the sun on you!
I'd love to do the channel but that's one challenge I won't consider - I would never cope with the cold without a wetsuit however much I worked at it!
Have fun and take care
Just got the call to say that we are going either tonight at midnight, or tomorrow morning at 0900. I'll try to keep you updated but I probably won't have internet access most of the time.
In the past the GPS tracking has been a bit variable, so don't panic if the boat doesn't seem to move much for several hours. It doesn't necessarily mean that we are in trouble.
SC - I think that time qualification varies depending on which Channel swim federation you go with. tbh - their whole prep has been half arsed imho with too much focus on pool swimming and distance, and not enough on acclimatisation. he, and the other very good swimmer on the team, are both skinny so they can get the miles in when they are in, but they are going to suffer. hey ho - their call.
anyhoo - good luck if you go - hope the Channel plays nicely for it. any idea which beach you're starting from yet??
yes the cheanal hoping is very good.
Fingers crossed for a safe crossing
Not on the hard stuff though
If you get a chance could you bring back some duty free. Something like Audrey Tautou will do. Thanks.
They leave at 9am
best of luck to you all...
Looks like they're underway- swim strong folks
