Training for 'half-iron' Little woody this year so hope I can still comment on this thread but was wondering if anyone can give me any tips for speeding up my bike cadence? I started cycling about 2months ago and have built up to what seems like a measly 14mph pretty consistently? Is that good? And can anyone suggest things to speed it up? Also I dont have cycling shoes I am just using my old running trainers atm, do they really make that much diference? (Am new to Tri, as you may have guessed, forgive my ignorance) Thank you,
Good luck to all those training for their iron distances this year!
Really missing the training at the minute. This must be the first sunny Sunday morning this year. I am on light duities until after slower has done IM Wales.
So far highlight of reduced training as been reading a book that is not Fink or tri related. Said book is '50 shades....' and I thought IM was obsessive!
Had a week off post Outlaw and now back light training whilst sitting on my mountain in spain, doing between 1 to 2 hours day alternating through run, bike, swim. Just back from. 11 miles run around the mountain trails
Beginning to get into light training again as entered Little Woody. Just come back from a pleasant 3hr bike - it was sunny for once although windy!
Stubby - have a look at the 'numpty bike thread' there is so much advice there for you. But in my experience the only way to get quicker on a bike is to bike, bike, bike! There is no 'magic bullet' sadly. You really want to get clip on pedals and cleats as it does make a big difference, although it does depend how much you want to get into this mad world of tri! I'll see you at the LW
Thanks Shady, I will have a look at that thread! I've heard that 'bike, bike, bike' is what its all about on the bike - I am definetly working on it! Beginning to really enjoy riding!
So you are doing the LW aswell - I keep hearing about the bike course being quite hilly so need to practice that lol! Hows the training going?
Stbby - training going ok - I did the Outlaw two weeks ago ( seems longer!) so it is a case of getting going again after a few days off. I've got a camping holiday for the two weeks prior to LW so will only be able to swim and run. ( When Mrs Slim is not looking - meant to be relaxing after Outlaw not straight back into training!)
Blimey Shady, thats pretty impressive! So the LW is just a smallish one for you then?!? I'm starting to get nervous at the moment although had a good training weekend this weekend so a little more confident!
That should be good though - at least u go into the race nice n relxed...well kind of depending on the weather!
Beasted myself today, but it was much needed. Ground out 3 laps of The Eirias tri route, which measured 90 miles and 4,775 foot of climbing. I found it really, bloody hard, averaging just 15.7mph and got down on myself a couple of times, but I just looked up the IM Wales route and that's 3,887 feet, so I shouldn't feel too miserable. Did the ride on Muffin's bike, which is really nice but a bit small, and it doesn't have my climbing cassete on it, or race wheels. Kept my HR sensible and didn't go north of my cap. Next week is going to be a bastard tought race.
16-mile run yesterday and I absolutely loved it. Really enjoying the improvement in my running, but it's very clear that I've not done enough riding. 120-miler at LCW, 90 today. Thanksfully I have at least 3 centuries scheduled in the next few weeks. Bit of a reality check, but chuffed I did it. 15.5 hours training this week. Good.
Max - you know you wanna!!! Yes, I'm camping - not bringing the family to this one though. The plan is to go with my bruv - get a crate of beer and when I stagger over the line - have a shower at the Rugby Club and then sip beer and watch those doing the BW finish! Oh, I've booked the weather as well - it's going to be a still summers night with only the gentle cheep of crickets and the 'ping' of ringpulls breaking the tranquil night air

Tempted by the Little Woody. Best get my coat and turn 'puter off before I do anything stupid - like enter,.
Why is he riding your bike Muffin?
His bike is at the LBS for some first aid. It is fair to say my lovely bike has been gathering dust for 2 weeks.
It's amazing how easily dust sticks to all the gel and Hi5 splatter on my bike.
Stardust, that is, Chris..... stardust.
You wanna take it easy at your age Max
