Oo and that one goes pass the outside edge.' Commentary continues during the over with the batsman unable to get anywhere near until the fifth ball. 'Holding, in again, he bowls and ooo oh dear! That's hit him in rather an awkward place. Never mind. One ball left!'

I like the way Blowers just decided to refer to Mitchell Starc as "Starkers". You wouldn't get that in a football commentary
Actually, in answer to the OPs original question - I think it's because cricket comes with a lot of added silliness. I suppose it's because players, fans and commentators alike are forced to entertain themselves during the rain breaks
