What is the obsession with Cricket?
I don't understand. Why don't you all like rounders? Or tennis?

Cricket confuses me.

You don't understand Cricket or you don't understand if there's an obsession? I'm not sure if people who like cricket dislike rounders. But rounders is considered to be more 'feminine'!!
they're completely different games - I'm sure there are people obsessed with rounders
anyway - what about stoolball??

Cricket is sublime. A sport that tests individuals to the nth degree within a team framework.
also when you go and watch it you get to drink for a solid 7-8 hours
This is a cricket-based site, Mousers. The original ethos of the Pirates that anyone, with the right facial hair, could play a Test Match within a year. It's got diluted since the early days, with Pirates playing T20s, County Cricket or even Subbuteo Table Cricket; We leave rounders for the Tripetalkers.
FB - I may have to start a stoolball thread now.
Crashie - do we have a pirate code on facial hair? Or are they just a set of guidelines?
PS when I retire, I'm going to train to be a cricket umpire.
It's all to do with having a 'nice beard' or 'nice mustache.' Look at Funkin, sprouts facial hair, becomes the beard that's feared and qualifies for Kona.

That said I find it boring as hell to watch and always end up falling asleep
Cricket is (I think) pretty much the only sport to have 2 albums dedicated to it.

I was in our school cricket team, I didn't then and still don't now know the rules, i only did it cus we could get out of math's half an hour early for practice, which accounts for my poor arithmetic (spellings not much cop either)
UPDATE at Lunch on the second day of the first test, I am just short of my double century (194* not out) at lunch, Lunch today is fish finger sandwiches and a very lovely chocolate cake, which was sent in by my mother.

I decided NOT to enforce the follow on and bat again, the opposition (my neighbour's boys 4 and 7) asked that the rule of hit the fence without bouncing was only worth four and not the six it was in my first innings. This was agreed.
Lot of early movement due to a rather nice curry last night.
And only one incident of note to slightly sour this fine days cricket was when the 4 yr old decided he wanted to watch Mr Tumble rather then field in the covers.

I've not watched a lot of cricket, but the commentary is nice and gentle, none of the hysterical nonsense you get on commentary of football, for instance.
I suspect that you're blissfully unaware of the work of Sir Geoffrey of Boycott (OBE).

I once spent nearly 2 hrs on an internal flight in the US trying to explain the rules of cricket to 2 Americans - it ain't easy without visuals beyond some paper and a pen!!!
