Just wanted an insight into everyones fave choons for running. I find certain songs make me run faster or are good for hills etc. I would like some new ones to prevent boredom so thought I'd start this thread!!
A few of my faves.....
The Futureheads - Favours for favours
Arctic Monkeys - Bainstorm
Razorlight - Back to the Start (this is the best song for hills and I'm not even a massive Razorlight fan)!!
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
A bit of funky house sometimes thrown in to jazz things up.

Amongst my favourite tunes to run to are
Rise Above it : Afroceltic Sound System
Mojave : Afroceltic Sound System (takes 3 about minutes to get going so it's great for a warm up)
No Cars Go : Arcade Fire
Occasionally some of the Radio 4 podcasts are good too
e.g. In Our Time and From Our own correspondent
Muse, especially Plug In Baby, Hysteria and The Small Print (I'm a massive Muse fan)
Papa Roach: Last Resort (thats kind of my 'power song')
Anything off the Rocky soundtrack
Elton John: I'm still standing (Good when I'm tired!)
I've also got really cheesy stuff to keep me smiling like Girls Aloud and S Club 7 (Don't tell anyone I listen to S Club 7...)
Chaka Khan - I feel for you...just because I love this song!
Baywatch theme - this is a good track to run to!
Bit of funky house is good, I really enjoyed running to this this morning.
Someone on another thread suggested Welcome to the jungle which I think would be good!
I'm afraid only really nasty thrash metal, or hip-hop keeps me going: mostly - but some blues, soul and other stuff in the random mix to keep me surprised: like to have a few hundred songs on a an mp3 player - and leave it on totally random - never know what's next - and have the mp3 player where I can't easily reach to change the track - so I listen to whatever comes on.......
sometimes get into the running and don't notice the songs at all - other times they are all that keeps me from collapsing into a heap...
I like a bit of The Who for running to, no particular reason why! Also can't beat a bit of Take That or other equally embarrassing cheesy pop!
I'd thought about audio books, any good suggestions?
Green Day =Jesus of Suburbia
Kate Nash=Foundations
Anything by BOND or WILD (particularly thier version of Ave Maria...its funky!)
I'm new to these forums - hello!
When I did the great South Run back in October I forgot my music so borrowed my friend's boyfriend's Ipod. It had Meatloaf on it so I started the Run to "Bat out of Hell", very appropriate! I would never have considered listening to Meatloaf while I ran but he really kept me going!
LL - Good choice with Take That!! Someone else has suggested Audiobooks I might have to give it a go - I'm thinking Roald Dahl!!
I've just bought 'Clubland Classics' for running with, and find the bass line and beat is really helping my pace. Reminds me too of going clubbing and having endless energy - pre children.
I'm with Hourglass on this, good bassline and beat stuff, particularly 'instrumental' type stuff for me..
Daftpunk is also always a winner... and my real 'power track' has to be Pendulum - Slam, always drags me up the beast of a hill halfway through my long Sunday route!
Some great suggestions for other stuff here though, sometimes you do just need to mellow and not bang along at 'silly' bpm!
I like the instrumental stuff as well - Braveheart / Lord of the Rings / Gladiator sound track.
Then, the inevitable cheese...... Avril Lavigne
I like the idea of Mel Gibson on a horse shrieking "Freedom"....
U2 - Mofo, Do You Feel Loved
Runrig - Wall of China
KMFDM - These Boots Are Made For Walking
Cradle of Filth - Temptation
Pink - U + Ur Hand
hi all - there is lots of great suggestions on here, cant wait to get on itunes now!! I have the album pump it up that i downlaoded from itunes and this has a really good mixture and does different timed mixes for long and short runs and also has cooldown music t
Try "NARCOZ Planete haine" Great track
YouTube - Anton Krupricka ultra running movie 'indulgence'
Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Stadium Arcadium is a cracking album to run to.
Although most of the time its great to just run. Its great to actually get in tune with how your body is reeacting to the training run. Music sometimes distracts from this thought pattern. As I love to compete in races its important to listen to my body and associate factors to when I'm feeling good, music has been a greta help in this department.
ultimate running tracks;
Faithless - Insomnia
Blur - Song 2
Felix - Dont you want (my love).
Anything by the New Pornographers.
70's Rock, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Linkin Park, Kings Of Leon anything with real instruments and some emotive vocals. Music to lose my self in on the 15 milers
My current faves are:
Funeral For a Friend (of course!) - Bend Your Arms To Look Like Wings and The End of Nothing
Avenged Sevenfold - Critical Acclaim
Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the E
My Chemical Romance - It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Deathwish
Bullet For My Valentine - Scream Aim Fire
Still Remains - Stay Captive
Ghosts on Pegasus Bridge - Ready Your Armour
The $hit - The Idiots Are Winning
