pebble - oxy is giving you some good advice there - try as hard as you can on the bike so you get it out of the way quickly, that way you'll be able to focus on doing a really fast run
i did a race report on the psof website, but it's just inane gibberish really. head for the sun if you can't see the buoys, and put anti-puncture gunk in your tyres. i stayed at one of their recommended places, can't remember the name, but it was fine. (not the ho-jo, one slightly out of town)
Good luck mate! It was a well done race in my opinion. Get a good aero position in case it's windy. November should be good to avoid the heat too. I'll be glad to send my race report if desired. It has the potential to be a pretty fast course. Well if you aren't the weakest cyclist ever like me.
I might have to see about coming to suport for you and Melissa. IMp and I will likely be doing a century ride in Tucson the day before the IM, so I'll be in the state already. We could just drive up to Tempe the night before or morning of. It's a great century ride if you're interested in a warm up ride before the race!
i can be in Boston in November (i have to go at some point around then, but it's pretty flexible). might jump on the bird and mosey on down to cheer y'all.
Just back in at work today and catching up on threads.
Good luck with Arizona. I don't know what to suggest about the run training. I'm planning on doing a longer session (22 mile +) the week before my cut back weeks, training for IMCH. As I don't think I had enough miles in my legs prior to Nice. Longest run was 18 miles at about 7.40 pace.
Me train for an IM? Now that's just a silly idea! There's an organized race called Tour de Tucson which is 109 mile ride. It's a pretty big race. I've done it twice the last three years and IMp and I did it last year. I think there were over 8,000 riders last year.
Yesterdays Little Woody was my first long brick in prep for Arizona, even though the race itself was a farce, as a brick it was well worth the effort, bit disappointed that the swim was way short, at least 400m My plan was to cycle the bike at 65% of my FTP (functional threshold power 300W) which is what I'm aiming for at Arizona, this I did holding back on the climbs and very little free wheeling on the downhills, off the bike in 3h:13mins, legs felt quite dead to start but came back to life after about 20mins, ran relatively strongly, then died a little at about 22k, but still running and felt at the end that I could have carried on, so thats a tough 60miles followed by a 25k, (2h:02mins) run so pretty pleased with the run. Next test is the Vit.

After running for 25 mins from my friends house in Glendale last year (August) - I can confirm that its on the warm side.....
Now holding it in July/August - then we would see who the REAL men were
What's a brick session?
Pebble, hope it goes well for you
Thanks for the tips Oxy, Debs, I'll try to remember them, blast the bike and sprint the run.
Mel are you still in the States? Me and Colleen are looking to arrive on the Wednesday and returning the following Wednesday.
Candy, KK any tips for the race etc or reccomendations where to stay, etc?
Ok Capn will keep an eye out for the fit chicks, not that I'll be in any condition to care tho
damn, beat me to it
Pebble yes, I live in Virginia, and will fly out on the Thursday before the race and back on the Sunday.
