it is a bit pricey but they are fantastic events and really get you out in the wilds! I'm heading off to Dorset in two weeks if the legs recover in time!
Definitely worth a go - and you have the choice of 10k/half or full. I did a couple of halves and a couple of fulls last year....really good fun for the most part but we were extremely lucky with the weather! For those of you who really want a challenge the Exmoor race is truly vicious. I had a total sense of humour failure at about mile17 as we were sent back up yet another hill....but it hasn't stopped me signing up for it again next year...
Birdypie - just looked at that link to the trail runs. The South Devon one must be stupid tough. I know that part of the coast and ran a bit of it last year around Dartmouth.
Neil - take a SiS SMART gel with caffeine towards the end of a long race - the caffeine acts a bit like a rocket booster so you get an extra kick and pick me up that a normal gel just doesn't give when the body is flagging.........use ordinary gels for the rest of the time so you don't get accustomed to the caffeine and lose the effect
I've done it a few times in long events and for me it seems to work well....can't say that others will get the same but Phil clearly did
Yes, must admit my energy levels felt good anyway but it was reassuring to know the boost was there if I needed it. (Or maybe it was the 2 pints of Harvey's with the karaoke in the Pilot on Friday evening? )
Will definitely employ the same tactic for future marathons - i.e. normal SIS Go Gels @ 5, 10, 15 + SIS SMART @ 20.
seemed to take me about 10 minutes to get down that hill...was very embarrassing but my quads had totally seized up and it was very painful. Sliding would have been a much quicker option!

...I never learn do I?!
Pphil and FB - what's your caffeine gel tip? I missed it,

I use flat coke in races if i can get personal drinks put out
Ah, cheers for that. I normally live a decaf lifestyle as it wierds me out a bit. Effects of a big dose at 20 miles would be interesting!

i think october is a 5 weekend month next year isnt it
what difference does it make?
ah, just checked. So it's not a triple opportunity - they're actually a week apart?
well, I cant think of a marathon this weekend lurks
one at the beginning of half term and one at the end
Meldy - I actually wanted them on the same weekend, like in the old days.
Lost what?
