suercaz.........Its a middle distance tri in Bala on sunday 14th June..............
The swim is about 1.9k in a nice clean flat lake............
the bike is an ouit and back course and is about 52 miles in total..........it has got some hills but they are long hills not short really steep ones...........and all the fast pirates on their way back shout out to you..........it can get a bit lonleyier on the final 10 miles if your slower but then your back at Bala
for the run...........this is 12 and a bit miles............out and back course again so loads of high fives from pirates and pirate support part way along cheering............it is falt, undulating and uphill on the way ouit and downhill, and undulating and falt on the way back.................
and the campsite is nice and barley provided the entertainment..............
I think I may have worked out a way to come along to Bala, stay for the party and get travelling expenses! (shoulda been an MP). If I'm really cheeky, I could even get Time In Leiu
I just have to run it by my boss
Do we have to book a pitch for the tent or will there be plenty of room?
Nice to see they've posted the confirmed timings on the site now. Just a pity they couldn't be arsed to do our relay split, I wouldn't mind if it had been chaotic in transition with people running everywhere but there was no one near us exiting T1 or T2, piss poor IMHO
Just as a final observation on the merits of taking a puncture repair kit. Two competitors approached me with punctures and both had to get shipped back to Stratford in a van as neither was carrying a repair kit. I didn't have one with me so I could help them (technically I shouldn't but had I got a kit with me I would have done). One was a fairly new looking road bike, one was a brand new mtb.
Of course it's up to you at the end of the day, but I think I'd carry one.
I always carry 2x C02 thingies and 2x tubes-anyone is welcome to buy them off me at any point-just cellotape a £20 to your top tube and wave me down on the bike route!
Oh, so that's you Rug! I've seen your adverts in phone boxes down Tottenham Court Road....
I usually take spares with me, but figured that for this race, if I puncture it's game over anyway - I'll just walk back. That, or annoy the scruffy looking marshall into fixing it for me.
yes i suppose it depends where the flat happened...i'd consider running the last few miles or carry the bike in then at least there wouldn't be any jelly legs for the 1st km of the run...
I agree too! I had a 'friend' with strict instructions to come and get me if I wasn't back within my ETA because I was likely punctured. Didn't see the point of taking repair kit out with me for a sprint.
Just as I was leaving to get in the pool, said 'friend' told me that if that were the case he'd be cycling out with a spare tube and some CO2.
Im thinking of asking the Bala campsite if we'd be allowed a fire Sunday night, provided its on bricks or something and doesnt damage the grass, it gets cold on that there site when the sun goes down.

Ooh I'll get the OH to try that with his photo.
I'm meant to be doing a half Ironman in less than 5 weeks but I 'forgot' to do any proper bike training. I've just done 44 miles and I'm knackered!

Oh decisions decisions. I could support Hubby for his marathon on that day... or I could support my Pirate friends.
I think that 52 miles on a bike is a little too far for my... friend at the moment but maybe next year.
Haven't camped since Girl Guides which was a disaster.
is this it
this is the one lil sis..........just make sure you don't put your tent next to Barleys

that was my thought too wickett
not worth it on a sprint is it though
even for me 5 minutes is a lot
Hmm maybe.
Think i'd rather a long bike leg than a DNF.
Agreed, I would rather walk in (or have another Pirate dispatch a minion for me when they got back to T2 ) than stop to fix a puncture in a sprint.
Seriously, as Squish was spectating, she would have come out for me in the car if I was more than 10 min behind ETA in T2.

Never thought of that idea! They could simply drop off a complete wheel (assuming one has spare front and rear!)-very 'tour de france' style support!

You just need to find someone to snuggle up with in your tent, Barley, then you'll be all toasty.
Meldy's camping isn't she?
