8iron - I have made a tentative booking at the Kiln Park site as that looks pretty close to race HQ/transition but not paid or confirmed anything yet. need to get in early with a motorhome as electric hookups are always limited on sites. but let me know what you are planning first before I confirm anything
feck me - I AM planning ahead with this seeing as I haven't a) decided to do it yet and b) the website isn't up with any more info yet!!!
Kiln ParK is full of what i believe you lot would call Chavs..................when The sun does it holiday for a £10..............they all go to Kiln Park....You used to be able to meet Bradley bear there
Toss up between this & Challenge Henley for me too OC,
Downside: This comes 6 days after a long weekend with the boys on tour in France (it took me the best part of 2 weeks to recover from this year's lack of sleep and attempt to drink the site bar dry on the final night) which may not have me performing at my best!
Upside: Pirate attendance & support
Downside: I'm a carp weak swimmer and never done seaswim before, what do those of you who have swum in the sea regularly / for triathlons think of relative difficulties? FB I guess this is directed as much at you being a regular sea swimmer, also how sheltered is Cardigan Bay?
jaffa, its carmarthen bay and pretty sheltered. The swim is between the beach and caldey island and pretty sheltered. Bottom line its IM - take your time in the swim and catch up later!
jaffa - sea swimming in some ways is easier in a wetsuit as the salt water gives extra buoyancy which generally improves your stroke. the downside is taste (learn to spit) and the salt can chafe a bit so lube up. and waves can be a bit tough but it should be sheltered.
8iron - are you planning showers for when swimmers exit the water to wash the salt off?? they don't have to be fancy but can make a difference in comfort
+1 on sea swimming sometimes easier,i do all my swimming in the sea, although currents can make a gentle swim tough, i did a little race off Eastney (which is normally placid) that was only 800 meters but the currents were so strong it took nearly an hour!
8iron, (sorry for the bombardment of questions!) what are the currents like in the bay?
I'm away from tomorrow at 1 pm till sunday without computer access................so a briliant excuse not to enter............I am assuming that this won't fill up overnight as I have not yet had any offers on seling my body to raise the cash needed...............

cheers fb & 8iron for your input, having taken 70mins to get through T1 at swashbuckler in my first non-lake swim last year was just a little bit dubious about twice the distance in the sea.........but plenty of time to get some sea swimming practice in, there could be some Surrey Training group sessions visiting you in God's waiting room fb
Jaffa - you'll be welcome to visit GWR for a swim anytime - conditions and tide are always the limiting factor as to whether you can get a decent swim, but if you have some dates (next year now probably as it's below 16C now and dropping so pretty chilly) in mind let me know and we can check tides and weather. always best when there's a northerly breeze as that flattens the sea nicely
yeh - always amazes me the amount some of the entry sites charge. I have no problem paying a booking fee but when they start charging %s then it can get a bit testy......
I might wait a bit and see what competition is in my a/g before deciding.....
Comments
FB - dont worry about campsites will sort.
Zuvai - doubt they have even looked at prices for next year yet! This is Tenby!!

I need to sell something to get the money..........
going to try to get one of the last of this year's sea swims at the w/e - temp is 15.8C so bearable
