    1. Cake, Where is SA near Buxton? Do they speak scotch there?image. Bit of a trek, any of those nice cheap travelodges nearby? Need to get some hill practice in, been lazy lately. Before the weather turns, yeah?

    2. mathschick, don't worry, I forgot to take my cycle gloves off last week and ran the 10K with them still on. Fingers have all sweat blistered up now.LOL

MC relays is good way to learn an open water type race cause after your swim you will have time to get out suit and chilli before bike leg then you will have time to chilli before run. Top tip though wear something different to your race gear under wettie. You will have time to change into dry race gear after swim, I didn't last year and had to stand round in wet ger before bike and run legs.

Well done Mathschick, which turbo have you got, I am still trying to decide which one to get.

image sums up my weekend. Sone nasty little insect took a bite of my leg and it swelled up like a gold ball and been on the anti histamine tablets so been asleep a lot. No training done at all, and to top it all off early hours of Monday got a phone call Mr Steadys dad been taken to hospital, so down to Bournemouth yesterday and have the feeling that I will not be doing much training or racing in the coming weeks. I felt great after the holiday, but now back to stressed and tired, this is definitely a horrible year for Mr Steady.

steady - the insects are awful this year. hope the bite is getting better, if not go to see the dr

I got the Elite Chrono elastogel - it is good, the bike feels very stable (although it is tricky to get on and off because the bike is higher than normal). It was reduced from £200 to £140 on wiggle.

sorry to hear about Mr Steady's dad, hope he is ok

I'm a complete gentleman, so wouldn't like to mention Trog's age.......but she is certainly an 'experienced' runner image

SA lives in macclesfield nearish razer and that rabble. image I'm just the other side of the woodhead pass so distance between each house is about 30 miles tops. But you would have to be insane to cycle directly between the places it's not the hills it's the driver's in the woodhead. If you fancy roughing it I'm sure SA would happerly help out and they have space in the back for a tent or come round ours and we have spare beds. What date are you thinking? Me and the missus are down south for the wild boar and hopefully will be down there for the week after and also at the end of sept where will meet you but other than that we are freeish at the moment.

Thanks all for the hugs, Mr Steady senior is "comfortable" in hospital speak and the tablets they gave him seen to be working. Keeping him there tonight again as we need to get some carers arranged and he needs a formal assessment for that.

Happychap and Trogs, maybe Dustboy could lure them down to Surrey for a bike ride.image

I have been to the docs and he drained the leg, so nice big dressing on,  no swim of any type until the weekend at the earliest. But it does feel better although I may have to go for a short nap.

*crawls sheepishly in & waves* Contrary to popular believe I am still in fact alive, just that life has been rather hectic recently & while I thought it was getting quieter, it now looks like it will stay busy until, oh I don't know, sometime in the year 2020!!

I haven't really done a read back on this thread, but just saw the posts on this page & hope all the bite victims are getting better & Steady sorry to hear about your father-in-law but fingers crossed he comes along as well as he can.

The 5 second update from me is that I'm well & truly back on the bike & loving it again after a somewhat nervous start (am doing the bike leg of vitruvian in 2 weeks time!).  Started swimming about 2/3 weeks ago & while my lack of strength means my technique & speed are absolute crap, at least I'm not having any pain in my shoulder or chest which is brilliant so it's a matter of onwards & upwards from here!

Have just started running again as well in the last few weeks after trying to build glute & hamstring etc strength back up, but am only quite literally doing baby intervals (started at 30 seconds, am now on 45 seconds & will give 1 min a go tomorrow!).  It feels utterly pathetic (although am trying to do the intervals as fast sprints to at least feel like I'm doing some sort of work!) but thus far the knee is holding up, which again is great & having learnt the hard way too many times I will take as long as it needs to to build it back up again to ensure it stays pain free!

Hope all is well with all of you; will try to make sure I poke my head in more often but please do excuse me if I'm not around as much!!

I've just bought an elite crono elastogel on eBay - picking up after my HIM in a fortnight (that's if my tri hasn't put me off cycling for life, that is!!!)

Do I need an industrial fan to go with it??
  • Options

No, just a TV, DVD, ipod etc. Fan will help if it's indoors. Good choice BTW, very happy with mine now 3 years in.

I find battlestar galatica or David Attenborough dvd box set’s help brit. At the right times a little bit of Radio 4 can be useful to releve the boredom but make sure you aren’t listening when the archer’s comes on or you will suddenly hit the afterburner’s when you hear the music. If your down with the kids some slayer or drum an bass works well to get your feet peddling in time to the beats. image

3 1/2 mile run this morning, still slow but glad to be out on the road again (only 3rd run after knackering my leg up in May...image) felt really good, avg pace 10.26m/m, last mile 9.28m/m so was chuffed that I upped the pace a bit, HR shot up a bit but not too much, need to build the base fitness up again and get back to Z2 running pace. The only way is up now....image
