I also will probably not be able to be at the Monday Pirate extravaganza. I also work in a school and will probably not even be able to get the Monday off so will be driving home as soon as it is all over and done on the Sunday.
Suspect that that will be a fun journey...........
Thank you very much Pingu for the offer of your mate but will probably join with Joddly (as long as she'll have me!) as she is a forum buddy and had put her name forward. Pass on apologies and thank your friend as well!
Heya WR4W (or Ms Z )
Totally agree, especially as Joddly's an IMWer so double 'ard
But if anyone does need a cyclist or possible a runner for a relay group though my mate's still interested.
... and chips. And is close enough to pirate HQ to walk to or get not-rip-off taxis for. We don't want too many people having to be sensible because of driving.

I would caution you on planning a drive back straight after the race, unless you live reasonably near, or are going to finish in a fairly quick time.
During the drive back I could hardly keep my eyes open after 30 minutes, had to stop for a hot drink to wake myself up, then 30 minutes more driving and I realised I needed to pull over for a sleep as id have fallen asleep at the wheel.
I'd second what Barley says
A couple of years ago I drove home through the night after Bala (which is only a half ironman) and I had a 6 or 7 hour journey and how I didn't kill myself of anyone else I don't know - I shudder now to think of it
I ended up pulling over and paying stupid prices for a service station bed for a couple of hours (couldn't sleep in the car!!) just so that I could go back on the roads in safety...
Personally I had no issues with legs etc the next day at work despite being a bit tired - but then that was only half the distance.........
With corporate and charity entries for which I understand they hold some back I expect only 100-150 individual entries left, but with the price going up I expect few more will enter this side of Christmas.
Perhaps a bit more swim biff than the last two years given the extra congestion at the start?

I think there were about 770 started in 2010 and 550 in 2011. To be honest in the middle one didn't really feel any different from the other.
There wasn't a huge amount of biff either year - maybe that was different if you were at the pointy end
the swim fight in 2010 wasn't bad. it was tight to about 200m but after that no big deal at all. I've had worse fights on OW starts. the biggest swim problem in 2010 was the weed but that's been sorted now I believe
I am sure my hands are too little for my body. Now if I could have a hand transplant with Pat Jennings I am confident I would be out of the water in under the hour.
I've put it on the race thingy just so they have something to say but after a misspelt youth I can down a pint of gunniess is less than 10 seconds. Know I've mentioned this before but if there are any new kids who disbelieve buy us one and I can prove it.
Dave with circumstances that would be very boring to go into outside of tri stuff I won't know if able to play until the last minute. If I can I will and if not your kidneys will be shared the punishment.
Is there an easy way on the website of seeing how many entries are in other than counting the list cant really afford to enter yet but probably would if push comes to shove (just cancel Xmas i am sure the kids will not mind) also when does the price go up?

804 entries on the website this lunchtime.

The split starting bays help a lot.
Agreed!

edited for my inability to upload an image....
As big as these beauties Meldy?
but a goalkeeping hero! (from a N Irish Gunner!)
My average swim technique plus those hands = speed. I say this because if I do fist drills I drown, so it is all about the hands!
edited this time for my inability to spell!
Dude she has standards.
Seconded although chances are I won't know if I can jion you till the actual day I'm afraid.I've put it on the race thingy just so they have something to say but after a misspelt youth I can down a pint of gunniess is less than 10 seconds.
