Lots of very hardcore "non-training" going on here. I feel for your poor armchair, Slim! And it looks like you're now officially a "lifestyle triathlete" VT'd?
Open water swim yesterday at Salford. 3km in 61 minutes, which I'm pleased with. Sets me up for about 1:15 in Tenby with a bit of luck. I really wanted to score 300 points on the "something slightly different" thread for the first time, and despite an injury and having my bike in the workshop for 10 days... I've achieved that. Chuffed !
Good stuff everyone nothing wrong with a bit of virtual training and planning for the next event (it works for me anyway), pleased to see that you're doing enough for us all STIL
Got 3 days off work, was planning on getting some good quality hilly miles in over the next few days.
5 miles in to first ride and just crested the first proper hill, ping, click, click, click, click, bang, rattle, rattle, rattle
Spoke, rear hanger and derailleur are gone.
2nd time this year, the first time cost me double IM, this time its cost me IM Wales, just can't afford to get it replaced until next month, can't miss a month of biking and still do Wales
So this is me pulling out of my 2nd event this year.
If anyone wants a hotel on the run course, overlooking the swim start PM me as I have a room that has the deposit paid for, sleeps 3
do you recon Mr Plodder will get hooked and want to do Ironman distances?
you can then have the same problems Mrs SA and I have and STIL and Muffin Top have
The is an IM future possible Mr and Mrs Plodder. My advice would be to pick events as far apart as possible.
I am interested to see how STIL does on his training program that has been based on only a 12 week big volume phase before IMW. Far from ideal and If it works then I can see a way for us bioth to carry on.

wait till you decide you want to do an event together, then training gets interesting
My turbo plan was hijacked by STIL, took a work call and he had jumped on
Don't how we could juggle the same event without compromising our jobs and life we want with family. The training hours would be tough and tapering would need an exclusion zone!
Back on board, new rear hanger got, wheel getting fixed, new rear mech ordered.
Who needs food
Bike should be back on the road start of next week
Mate need to phone you about the weekend anyway and should have done it the other day but was a muppet will try and get you in a bit but if you need any help on this one I would only be spending it on cadbury's at the moment anyway.
Plus if you need food just come round every night Sarah would love it and I would get to spend so time with your two J's
and aside from that, there is a possibility of some tenseness in the lower leg hence the cramps, try some pb work for a while and kick from the hips to try and relax the lower legs
Crux, stop kicking off the wall so hard, don't push off, swim off instead, eat another banana before swim, drink half a litre of Nuun about the swim time & get some OW practice.

Really feel lower than a low thing at the moment
Think I'm going to take up gardening instead

Off to put the turbo in front of the tv and be inspired Go boys
Good advice IM. I've already promised not to go long in 2013 (other thanas part of a relay), but have baggsied 2014 for iron distance comeback.
We'll just have to see if he likes his first tri in a few weeks
Go Wiggo

OK dummy spat out, toys thrown out of the pram.

good news
I need some help.
Each of my last 4 swims have ended in foot arch and then calf cramps, and they are starting sooner each time. ????
Just 1k meters today and I felt the cramp coming on.
I'm getting worried about the swim at Wales now. I have been putting it down to general fatigue, but now I'm not sure.
Any tips or experience anyone can give me on dealing with this issue?
Banananananas

Crux, is that pool or OW?
Eating a banana every day already
then try the other plan
Typically I'd get them at some point in OW as not kicking off the wall every so often.
Try pointing the toes loosely. This relaxes the calves and I find reduces chances of cramps.
Crux, stop kicking off the wall so hard, don't push off, swim off instead, eat another banana before swim, drink half a litre of Nuun about the swim time & get some OW practice.
Or cramp, up to you.
so as I am temporary bikeless, ran 18 miles this morning and have OW swimming tonight
But tomorrow becomes a problem, so question to my learned friends do I
1. Put Mrs SA hack bike on the turbo and adjust it so it nearly fits me.
2. Go and sit on a gym bike for a couple of hours
3. forget biking and just do a couple of hours in gym (weights and core strength)
Will be also running tomorrow afternoon/night
Hit the hack I reckon.
Glad you've got sorted
Any of them SA ... IMO !!
Swim today, 400m w/u
10 x 200 off 3.30 with 20 seconds rest
Nice session, dont ask me what its supposed to do !!
Melds I've got to ask...I dont understand this swimming language, what does 'off 3.30 ''mean?
200 meters to take 3.30 minutes, 20 secs rest and start again ... repeat 10 times
Good swimming Meldy, sounds like it was supposed to hurt!
I crashed and burnt attempting 5 x 400m last night on 6.45 with15 secs rest. Stopped after 3 More rest or slower pace needed next time.
Have you seen how hard proper swimmers kick?
