I really want to do an iron distance race and I don't mind which one. Much as I love the idea of joining you all in Nice I think it's not the one for me. I've worked out I descend steep descents almost as slowly as I climb them. I don't think I can mentally cope with the descents at Nice after 80 miles already on the bike.
If my dream was to do IM Nice I'd do it and sod the slight fear of hurtling downhill. But my dream is to do an IM distance and if I want to test my mental stamina even more I can do Nice in the future. I just want to stack the odds slightly more in my favour.
Medicgirl ... seriously, If I can do this anyone can and most on here will attest that I descend hills slower than I go up them Dont discount this race ...
Medic Girl - HTFU. It's not a knitting club. You've got a whole year yet and you can learn how to descend. Has anyone ever actually taught you how? If this is the race you want to do, and you're prepared to work hard at it, you WILL finish. Nice is an amazing race and you'll never forget it. It will make a great debut race.
Mouse true good descending is a real skill and getting tips of more experienced bods or better still following them down and seeing the lines they take is a must
Right I'm not going to be a fuckin wuss. No you're right I have a year. Why does spending hours of the British winter running and cylcing yet an hour descending in stunning scenary bother me?!
I just googled the mountains - stunning. I'm bloody cycling round Nottingham and swimmig in a rowing lake.

I'm (probably) out
Oi, Petunia! Don't be going and thinking it is all going to go pear shaped - it won't. You've done the training, you're going to get round the Outlaw, and then you can sign up for this
Siggy mate, you need to go to this. It was an incredible long weekend. Everything from the posh shops, the screaming French frontman at 6am, the jellyfish, the look on the chinese restaurant womans face when yours truly and coach Bassos cleared two tables full of grub, pizza with Mon et al, a splendid comedy tan, hell, even Barlos' plane got lost I think.
Oh, top tip, take your bike bags on the bus to the Ibis, it's only a couple of quid rather than the taxi trying to charge £45 and it REALLY annoys the French when their bus is full of English bike bags and no-one else can get on. Or off. Ha ha.
I didn't race but me 'n Bassos (who did race) rode up to Tourrettes for the arvo a day or so after. Beautiful place, beautiful ride.

Right some sole searching later I have decided:

oh bloody 'ell I need to make up my mind.
Sounds like it would be a laugh. But a DNF because you descend like a snail? That would be embarrassing!
MG plenty of time to practice descents the more you do the better you get Outlaws a great race but I think Nice will be awesome
MG - the witch has spoken. You may as well enter; she'll hex you into doing it anyway

Completely agree RBM. I was given a coaching tutorial with added bits of Cancellara on video and then have followed people's lines many times.
Meldy - I can see this one is going to be trouble.
Yep .... with a capital 'T' !!!!
Good choice MG
My partner says I'm hard work too.
and I will say the descents are really not all that bad ...as long as you dont look over the side
Or go over it
Thanks for that

It's the climbing you want to be afraid of.
I can teach you to descend
Are we wibbling already, or did I miss it?
so what *exactly* have you been doing for the last 7 years ??

Permission to step aboard please?!!
Only if you come bearing gifts ....
Good decision Siggy

I think Meldy smiled too.......
And the bus was Meldy's idea if I recall, as well? Something about payload on a broomstick.....
