Mallorca 70.3 would be perfect but clearly much more expensive than a UK race. Sea swim, big hill on the bike and sea front run, all probably in hot conditions.
Yeah with already an international marathon and an international Ironman, I think I need to stay in the UK for anything else. Marshman sounds very tempting!!
The trouble is that it's too early for a half in the UK, Boots, the water will be too cold. I think Marshman, or possibly Swashbuckler, are the earliest ones. Certainly that I'm aware of.
It's not ideal time wise but I'm most likely to be up for the pirates retaking Bala. That's an awesome race.

This year I did Paris Marathon, Mallorca 70.3 and IM Switzerland. And next month I'm off to Lanza... whatever I can do you can do faster....
It's a lazy question but can anyone give me a ball park cost of 'doing' Mallorca 70.3? Are flights, long weekend of accomm and other sundry costs reasonable?
In my defence the organisers normally have some lewd finishers T shirt such as "I licked the Beaver" by all accounts, although I haven't raced it myself.
Beaver - according to those who've done it, isn't that great an experience - muddy swim, long run to T etc.
Marshman is good - if a bit bleak and weather dependant as the wind can really blow on the marshes.
You wouldn't happen to be baised at all would you? Are you ref'ing there next year?
Logistically the Beaver is much better for me, so I think that will win. Plus as it's a Saturday I can get a few hours riding around the peak district on the Sunday
I've also had pretty good feedback from other participant:
"Great race, the swim is fantastic clear water in a bay with no current, fab ride with one decent climb otherwise flat and fast. The run I found tough as it was bloody hot and no shade but totally flat. Very well organised."
It sure sounds a little more appealing than the Beaver / Marshman alternatives.
GB - maybe a little bias.... - but based on racing it as well as reffing it, and as it's down our neck of the woods, we know the area pretty well as well. not sure about whether we will be the officials next year - nothing arranged yet, and if Mike (the organiser) doesn't register it as a BTF event, it would cause us issues. it wasn't a BTF registered event this year, although we did officiate unofficially if you get my drift...
Car Hire €280 between 3 plus fuel (There may be cheaper ways of getting the bikes across the island??)
I booked online and paid €7.50 for a (one-way) coach transfer from the airport to Puerto Polenca this summer. They might charge a bit extra to take a bike but hey, it's a coach, space isn't an issue.

one in cornwall in may although like many the swim was cut this year
I'm doing Rome towards end of March... looks buuuutiful!
It's a bit of a bummer really... I forget how cold it can be during the winter over there... not looking forward to coming back
We've entered Marshman. Just hoping they remember to turn off the wind machine that day.

PRW - I paid:
Flight £145
Accomodation (1wk) €680 between 3 (but the place slept 7!)
Car Hire €280 between 3 plus fuel (There may be cheaper ways of getting the bikes across the island??)
Food/Drink £200ish but this could be skimped on - we did a lot of cycling after where we'd stop at a restaurant for an extravagant lunch!!)
Not everything is a competition you know
With TdF, Commonwealth games etc... trying to keep the cost of sports/events travelling down and the quantity higher
I'm going to enter the Beaver... looks a nice race!
Will you two just get a room and be done with it
Best not to race that one.
Howcome?

GB, my poor attempt at humour, where coming first means you lose.

If only he was racing Nice we could share!

Cheers Engineer.

I do get your drift... brown paper bag and all that... nice podium position for the right amount of money?
SA's DIY Half is the end of April if that helps
probably too late - but 70.3 Italy is on June 8th - sea swim, hillyish bike and flat run
Challenge Fuerteventura, Challenge Rimini?
Swashbuckler is July next year, as it can only happen on certain tides. Makes it better for me though, as its usually a bit close to VLM.
