I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in a day (or poss even a weekend) visiting Derbyshire and banging out a few of the longer, steady climbs?
There are a handful that are 10km or so, and average out at 3% ish, so perfect for, (particularly Nice) IM climbs...
Derbyshire is nice and central so reachable for all.
I was thinking maybe late March?
Interested?

Bonus!
Not only some good climbs on paper, but some local knowledge too.....
Would be great to meet up. I live in the High Peak and have the last week off in March. I can recommend some great climbs around Rushup Edge, Mam Tor, Winnets, Hathersage, Bakewell, Tideswell, Buxton and the Goyt Valley...in fact, pretty much any direction you can throw a stick there are great hills.
Did you have something like this in mind Magna http://connect.garmin.com/activity/278875203?
That looks perfect!
Could be, depending on health and whether Derbyshire re-locates nearer London.
Cool, just let me know what dates you are free, where are you based?
Stanners, i'm on the Lincs/Cambs border, so an hours drive from Derby
I might be up for that - just got back from a ride up round Monyash and Taddington
How does March 29th sound?
(I can't do a mid week day until the new tax year, as i've used all my annual leave up!)
If anyone is interested, suggest a 10:00 start, to give a bit of travelling time.... and follow Stanners route..
Stanners, where would be a good place to meet up with suitable parking, a cafe for afterwards etc? - somewhere in the eastern part of the route would suit me, but happy to be flexible if needed.
If anyone does fancy a second day there's two routes here
http://ridewithgps.com/users/223208/routes
you'd probably want a gps to follow them as they are a bit less A roady (but not tiny lanes either)
Sadly, can't do a second day.... My youngest son is a very keen Peterborough United supporter, and they're playing at Wembley that day.... I doubt he'd ever forgive me if I decided not to take him.....
Excellent!
Will get things sorted over the next few weeks... keep the date clear...
There might be some interest from my running group - High Peak Running Group and Chinley Churners (off road biking) you may already be in touch with them. If not, let me know and I will pass on the details, both are closed groups.
For me it's a long way to go, so even though I'd really like to. I won't.
Stanners, i was driving from Glossop to Furness vale last week ( the day you posted you route) via Little Hayfield, was that you by any chance climbing the hill from Little Hayfield about 10.15am?
Definitely interested... am from them nether parts so can time with a trip to see the family
Sounds like a cracking day forming.
Razor, probably would of been me (had my Pirate bike jacket on). Trying to get as much hill work as possible in ahead of Slateman and IMUK 70.3
Cool Can't make the 29th as down south with the in-laws but will keep checking in case you guys do anouther day as well. If it's any good sergested a trip along the yorkshire bit of the tour de france a few months back but not been able to take it any further yet. So if you guys fancy going from sheffield up to Holmfirth or further it's all brand new roads and hilly as funk.
If anyone is interested i will be leaving Youlgreave YHA on Friday 7th march at 8.30am
Following the route attached

Stanners / Popsider, anyone else who knows the area could you have a quick look at route for me an make sure i haven't made any stupid mistakes, first time up there and reckon its gonna hurt
JC just be careful going down Winnates pass. You can go round the back over man tor and into Edale if any better and take the road from there to hope. Less steep and quiter road's will still hurt through.
If you are planning on a pit stop on the way round this place is very bike friendly. woodbine There are places to lock your bike round the back of the cafe and they sell tea in pint glass's.
Oh and worth taking a look around eyam. There are a few good training loop's you can do around there in future training rides and they have a YHA there and also a few nearby. A lot of the local's use it for training and other than traffic to the glider club few car's.
Thanks Cake.
Will be hitting that area around 10.30am so might just take your advice on board. Although i did fancy seeing what it was like going down Winnates. I was going to save the attempt going up until April as ive organised at trip on the 11/12 staying at Youlgreave YHA, for 18
This is a bit of a recce. Well thats my excuse.
Subject to the pain i might be up again week after
Count me in for the 29th
Winnates makes me cry althrough I'm a coward on down hills. It's nicer going up it.
Sounds like we'll have a crowd!
Really looking forward to this now....
Would prefer the sort of hills that climb at about 4-5% for 10 miles please as training for Lanza, rather than the leg busting climbs of Winnates, but happy to go with the crowd.
Just booked the bike into to go from a double to a compact but will be after this, so will just to have HTFU for the day
Yep, i'm looking for long steady climbs too, rather than sharp shocks!
