Mike, I've got mild asthma and end up coughing and spluttering when it's very cold. However, I'm much worse in hot summer months, but mainly due to hay fever. Might be worth going to see an asthma nurse at your doctors and keeping a check of your peak flow.
Well done NE, that's excellent running! Not sad I missed such cold conditions!!
Mike I agree with Hilly get it checked as i know how difficult it is to breathe with asthma. My asthma also tends to get worse with the cold but mine is like a lump in the throat and I start to choke rather then be able to breathe.
What; nothing; and managed 30 odd miles since Jan 1st! Why; family probs, work overload and resultant serious motivation deficit. Really thought I'd run tonight asb finished on-call but was called in the early hours of the morning and didn't get home 'till after 7o/c and felt more like drinking an unearned beer than running on the treadmill. Still there is always tomorrow. How I envy all you industrious runners and racers!!! DCD
A word of encouragement for all those in recovery mode - enjoy the rest, and plan what you're doing in the newly found spare time, then plan the date of the next session. Or you can go shopping?
Me Following yesterdays PB blast round my personal 10k, I woke in the middle of the night with a fierce and solidly cramped calf. It's been sore all day despite stretching and massage. Decided to go for another 6.5 miles tonight and finished 2 mins slower than yesterday (although able to stand up afterwards!)
MikeS, tight breathing seems to come on at any time. I felt it the week leading up to Brass Monkeys and like hilly have a bad time in summer.
Have been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma, which in a perverse way I'm quite proud of:-)
I have an inhaler which I take rarely but is there when needed.
Treadmill, what can I say. You have a real talent and I really miss you dragging me round Barnsley on cold Monday nights out of the comfort zone. Any run you want - hard, easy, long, short you know where I am. Just to run for pleasure, not competition might be of benefit.
SiT. Ron Hill approach? Reminds me of the 1 mile I did the other year with HR in 180s, pace 9m/m just to get something in the log for the day. Be careful.
I have asthma,do go and have a check up with your asthma nurse Mike,I suffer big time in summer(also hayfever) and when the cold air hits my airways, also fast track work, hillwork really affects me I am left gasping for air, mine is allergy based and exercise enduced, but it is a lot better since taking up running.
ALF: Always a little further Miles makes smiles. Progression
Sorry but I have steroid inhaler, long acting ventolin and another one which I have to take every day,but still don't make a difference with my speed session and the effect it has on me!!

It might be worth having a hospital review, maybe at llandough hospital there might not be much else that can be tweaked, but your needs are a bit diferent to a lot of othr asthma sufferers in that you exercise to a high level
Thanks Hippo for advice:-) Will mention it to my doctor if I can get in to see her this week(takes ages to get an appointment)Not been to llandough Hospital for years !!

Progression
I try not to take my inhaler very often and normally get away without it in winter, but summer is another thing...!
thought it was just me

have you had a reassessment of your asthma treatment since you have been running
Yes I have had reassessment with nurse 4 months ago, and they increased my preventor and protector inhalers to double the dose.
