Look at your medal very carefully under a microscope - On mine, it does say in very very small letters 'half marathon', so I assume yours will say 'marathon'.
I think whoever designed the medal thought that the date was far more important than the event itself!!
Thanks Vinny, a younger friend who has better eyesight pointed it out to me this evening. Perhaps when I show it people I'll take a magnifying glass with me
Like everyone else all was going well until the horror of the windy water sports centre. I was running through treacle for the last 5 miles but battled on without walking or stopping which felt like an achievement in itself. Finished in 3:37:57 (chip time) so delighted with that for such a tough first attempt.
Disappointed that someone swapped the energy drink for industrial solvent though.
don't rush into getting back into running tiredgirl, try cycling or swimming until you and your legs feel better, a week off won't do you any harm. mrs yorkshire running man ( will really have to get her, her own forum name) is struggling a little as well with her calves so have told her to rest up.
Yeah mine too. I was attempting a last burst at the end, but the ground was quite rutted so I nearly ended up twisting my ankle. Consequently I think I was still grimacing at the finish line.
actionphoto.net for the photos but not available yet. Does appear that they may send them direct to us on approval for sale or return, but check out their website for more details.
Legs not bad - better than I thought for my first marathon - would recommend a sports massage, that was a good Monday lunchtime activity!
legs not feeling too bad at moment, the pain killers must be working. had recuring nightmare of being blown into boating lake by the probable gale force winds last night. anyone get injured in the country lane just after 19 miles
My achilles really started hurting on that piece of track. Still feel sore now but thankfully I don't think it's the return of my old injury. That bit of track was the lowest point of my run. Although I hated the wind I knew at that stage I would finish. At miles 18-19 I was ready to give up.
Am able to walk up and down stairs without grimacing (too much) now
K s8 I just about sussed out how to run that lane at the end of it, basically zig zag zig zag around the puddles and ruts. Thought that would be the hardest bit until i turned left onto the watercourse then BANG ?
I completed the marathon (my first) in 4h 23m. The wind seemed to start as soon as you turned off from the half marathon route. The run from the watersports lake to the end will make runs at my club (in a few weeks time) seem a lot easier. I have also not received the t-shirt that I ordered, I have emailed today about this.
seems like some of you guys need to take a visit to the ultra forum, aiming for70+ miles training this week. i suppose its how steady you can run a marathon in and still carry on your training for a specific ultra. my optimum marathon time is around 3:30. i can run a marathon each weekend if i stick to that pace. if i push the speed up to sub 3:20 then i know i will suffer the week after and will take a good few weeks recovery time.a lot of it comes with experience and putting in the mileage.
the pain that most people are describing is actually good, beleive it or not, its means that perticular muscle, most probably the quads or calves, are ripping and growing more muscle which in turn will make it stronger. if you carry on your same training and run another marathon or half again soon then in theory the next time, even if you run the same pace you should be stronger and it should be a lot less painful, in theory that is.

but it's still worth going for a gentle recovery run to clear the legs, you'll feel better for it.
(10miles tonight in my case, ho hum)
Hope the photos my husband took come out.
Two mile run this morning was hard

cut my 10miles short as it was dark and off road... still a PB for that route, go figure.
mind, you're not the first to question my sanity.
