On a completely unrelated note - I see Wiggle have neoprene socks and gloves and hats in stock. I've not seen anyone say it was cold last year though - even with it being pretty early ?
On the whole people were fairly happy with the temperature in the water last year. Apart from the woman who got out with hypothermia but still tried to go out on her bike. That ended with her being more or less dragged back into the transition tent and marched around briskly by the race director...
Well, been in the lake for the last 2 weeks and I can confirm, it's f***ing freezing. 7 degrees both times but the scenery was nice. Going to swim most of the course on Friday.
Hi all i'm new on here and could do with some help.
Planning on doing a full length tri this summer and I'm having a dilemma. The plan has always been to enter IMUK but i'm now thinking of entering the Lakesman instead.
I started triathlon as a bet and a break from running after last year's Manchester Marathon. I progressed from not been able to swim a length to managing a sprint tri a month later. Then through serendipity with injuries progressed to completing the Legend Mid distance tri last July, as I crossed the line I said to myself I'd do a full length event this year.
Last month I ran the marathon in 3.27 and the three peaks fell race last weekend, so my running is up to scratch and i don't want to lose that running fitness.
I also managed 78 miles in 4h.25 a few weeks back and still felt fresh getting off the bike, which is faster than my planned ironman pace. But I've only done 3 rides on my road bike this year (but plenty of indoor cycling). It only leaves me 5 weeks to train on the bike but I'm happy to put some serious time on the bike between now and mid June. I also did a mountain bike ride in the peak with full camping gear (>50lb bike with gear) where I was out for 14 hours pedalling for 12 so I know I've got endurance.
Swimming is my weakest discipline I don't expect to do the swim in less than 1h30 - 1h 40, but i've not tried the distance in open water yet. I've done plenty of +1hour swims in the pool and i'm better in open water.
If I do a open water tester and the swimming goes OK, I think i'll enter the Lakesman. I'm not bothered about IM status and I'm not after a time and don't need the crowds to push me on. Plus the logistics of Bolton transitions are putting me off a lot as is the location compared to Wales or the Lakes.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't other than I could be slightly faster on the bike with an extra months cycling or will I die ?
With the base training you have I'd say go for it Try and get in open water and wetsuit for a few swims ahead of time and you have the full 2 hours 20 minutes for the swim
Always mess up lists, but can someone add Mrs Tricoops and kids to the support crew. She wants to experience the legendary Pirate support/banter/abuse!
Did 103 miles/2000ft in 5.45 with a couple of stops at the weekend and swam the distance in the pool yesterday. So If my swim in Boundry Park goes well tomorrow i'll be entering.

Oh I am hoping to make it back for Boundary tomorrow I'll have my pirate cap on so look out for me! Went in on Sunday and was good to be back OW!
Did it, Swimming is by far my weakest discipline and I did it in just over 1:30 which I was really pleased, entered this morning so see everyone in 5 weeks. Better get on my bike

"We have finalised the volunteers for The Lakesman Triathlon and you have been allocated the following times/positions:-
Bit chilly at first but a very pleasant swim. Think someone said it was 13 degrees at the coldest point.
Did London Marathon successfully though and up to 80m+ of very hilly rides in North Wales.
Can't believe theres only 5 weeks to go !
Nick - sounds like you'll cope just fine - just don't go mad on the day ?

It was very low though when I swam in there on Tuesday. Quicker to walk...
