We're a long distance focused group, and long may it reign....but equally a lot of us do sprints here and there along the way for fun.... a couple of weeks ago, Hof, Cake, Mrs Cake/Bookie and I did the Daventry Sprint tri, organised by Rugby triathlon club, and is also coincidentally sponsored by Hof's better 'arf's company, Viridian....
It was a cracking event, brilliantly organised and on a really great course that we all thoroughly enjoyed, and Hof and I were chatting afterwards that it would be good fun to get a decent sized pirate gathering together for a sprint like this next year... intentionally NOT a champs, but just for a fun race towards the end of the season and a few beers afterwards... Daventry is nice and central, accessible easily from the north and south, and just off the M1 so would work well.... plus would be nice to support a fellow pirate's sponsorship of an event... If it's the same as this year, it'll be the end of August bank holiday weekend on the saturday... and I'm guessing that there must be a travel lodge or similar close by?.... and the event is near the town centre, so easy access to pubs, food etc... Early days, and a long way in advance, but just floating the idea to see if anyone is interested?

As I've already said on Facebook, I'm in. Made a note in the diary!
I did a sprint relay at Stratford a few years ago, so there are a few about.
I remember we camped on the park at Nantwich, an event we could camp would be best
Magna .. can you check if there is any camping in the near vicinity
Will do.
Sounds an interesting idea - I've done two sprint races in the last month, they are fun and make a change from the rigours of long distance - but don't be fooled, they are full-on high voltage races!
For Daventry its about 4 miles away.... for Nantwich, I don't know, but sounds from Barlos' post that its very nearby?
They allowed us to camp on the park the tri was run from at Nantwich, so right next to T2, seem to remember having pictures of people who have long disappeared from this forum drinking coffee/tea from cereal bowls, happy days
If it's the same set-up in Nantwich these days then you camp in the field right next to the race
Well, lets do both then!.... as per Mallowpuff, I'll probably do Daventry anyway, as I enjoyed it so much this year!... suggest we make the Nantwich event the main one, with those that can/want to, also doing Daventry...
Nantwich season opener is 21st May (which unfortunately clashes with Lanza)...

And Daventry, yet to be announced, but probably 27th Aug... here's the 2016 details
http://rugbytriathlon.org.uk/racing-series-2016
we'll need to check camping availability at both venues in due course.
really hoping to be there either doing or supporting, would be fantastic if we could get some of the original people who did the now legendary "TITs and Flaps" thread back again

Nantwich was my first ever tri, I dnf'd managed a bit better the next couple of times...
i remember driving Cake down from Keswick late on a Saturday night, and both racing the following day
oh and I still know nuffink
I miss nantwich I think I miss buying several packets of doughnuts for the camp site most.
I'd happily do ever next year and it it helps with your thinking matlock tri on the bank holiday monday in August is very cheap (no medal in the costs) and got a good attitude for pirates. It's hilly and funk.
Unfortunately 21st May clashes with IM St Polten 70.3 for me. I'll keep an eye on the other one though.
Just in case because knackered and just realized mentioned matlock because of the decent camping nearby. Daventry this year was brilliant through and well worth folks time. Decent course and brilliant medal. You would have to be a contemplate plant pot to get lost on the bike course.
I was really up for Nantwich (honest).
I told Sherpa Dave about it this morning and he reminded me we'll be in Cuba
and lanza
Any old excuse.
Just in case there was a issue with the t-shirts not being delivered on time for Daventry Sprint tri. T-shirt's were posted today and there are well nice much nicer than I would expect for a sprint tri.
I'd love to do Nantwich again. If the early one clashes can we do September instead?
That's a shame. Thanks littleclown
right.... suggest we wait until the dust settles in dates for various events, and then work out what the best bet is for a pirate sprint gathering...
I did have a thought the other day with us all being on different parts of the world we could always have a few races earmarked anyway and have a league system in operation? not baised on times that wouldn't be in the spirit just on the number of bacon sandwich's eaten or something? That way I might win as well.
