Just a quickie. Read July's book and intend to use this thread to really get back into reading after finding it incredibly difficult to sit down long enough to finish a book for years now!
Can I ask a silly question please? Do you guys buy the books or visit the library?
I go to the library in central Manc - the books are very rarely in or else at other libraries, so I reserve them for 80p & they usually turn up a few days later ('cept this one - was 3rd on the waiting list so had to wait a coupla weeks.) Bit pricey for me to buy one every month, not knowing if I'd like it or not ..... I like these threads - end up reading books I'd otherwise never think of.
Hmm Erratic that's why I like these threads and it forces me to take time out to finish the book ready for the next!
The reason I ask about the library is that I recently telephoned my local library and asked them what identification I need to take with me to join so that I can take books out.
They said that they don't need identification anymore....seems weird! So any Joe Bloggs can go in and take away whatever they like?
Maybe they have a list of all the residents in the area so they can ask you your date of birth or something. Can't believe they wouldn't check in some way!
I got AQOTOE from library but failed to finish in time to discuss. O/H had bought Dogs in the night anyway. Will probably get Lovely Bones from Library.
I've only just discovered the book club this week but had already read last months and this months books - otherwise I would buy them as I just love books.
BB - I loved Birdsong. Wasn't something I would have chosen but a friend gave it to me so I felt I should and was very glad.
I find it difficult to justify reading a novel when I should be doing more study!
at the moment tho i have a lot mor time to listen to something than read it so am getting a lot of things on audio books (CD where pos) - very expensive
Always buy, but book-buying is an unhealthy compulsion of mine.
I love the Waterstones with coffee! Two of my greatest passions in one space. My only sadness is that all the Coffee Republics in my usual Waterstones have been replaced by vastly inferior facsimiles.

What all that about then?
Turns my stomach the smell of coffee.
They always have reeeeally cr@p music in the background as well. Especially Waterstones. Stuff you've never heard of but really rubbish.
Don't have the naughty muffins though!
