Just finished Lovely Bones. Borrowed it from my Mum, and it only took one day to read. Interesting book, and looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks of it.
Read this in France the other week. Never mind coffee - sitting in the garden of your brother-in-laws chateau on a lounger with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc is the way to read!
Will be back to discuss.
Have just started Straw Dogs by John Gray. Bit heavy going so wouldn't necessarily rush to recommend for Sept - however, it might be nice to do a non-fiction for a change?
Failing that, I'm temporarily banned from going into Waterstones and Ottakar's as I've got so many books still to read!
Did wonder if we should do a category instead of a particular book. eg sporting/adventure biog.
Have read Touching the void(excellent), not about the bike (Excellent), Zatopek (definitely not excellent)in the last year or so - would be intersested to hear what people think of these or other books. Might be bit hard for this type of thread, also there are occasional threads on these type of book.
What about Perfume by Patrick Suskind (sorry can't do umlauts) for September? I read the English translation, but it is originally written in German. I have never read any book like it.
"A murder was the start of his obsession. It was after that first crime that he knew he was a genius, that he understood his destiny. He, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, the fishmonger's bastard, was to be the greatest perfumier of all time. " - from Amazon.
That only gives us about 20 weeks to read War and Peace!
I'm trying to read all 100 books - only 32 to go, but they include War and Peace and A Suitable Boy. Both far too long for my small brain. It has some excellent books in the list that I'd never have read otherwise.
That was fast, BB! I haven't even bought it yet. Best get on the case.
Would Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaman be a possibility for next month's book? I know Terry Pratchett isn't everyone's thing but this isn't a Discworld novel and I think is a lot of fun.

I've just lent it to my sister who has a daughter about the same age as the girl in the story. She sobbed throught the first chapter!!
We both enjoyed the book, although it's more to my sisters taste than mine (I prefer more blood and gore!!).

no bright ideas for a book for Sept.

Any views?
Straw Dogs is not to my taste.
If you enjoyed those you might also like Jon Krakauer Into the Wild.

But, as I don't have anything to suggest, I can hardly complain!

It was in the BBC top 100 books.

I am a very slow reader (so I usually find typo errors) but finished it in a couple of days
I got totally engrossed in it & really thought it was a wonderful book - mustn't say anymore
