GFB, I was told to ride on a field to get use to them, as it is a lot softer if you fall of.

Any time I fell off my bike before it was my head that broke my fall!! MAybe thats why I'm bad at maths!!

I think I'll go for the cages and work my way from there!

spds are cleats of a version. I guess you mean the looks? or do you intend cycling on spd pedals with ordinary shoes on? IF you are really nervous, go with the flat pedals. Cages have a bad safety record. I know someone explained it to me once but it was pretty gory.

your helmet should come between you and the ground....... helmet!!!!
  • Options
I always wear a helmet I promise:o)...I think it's the mountain bike type shoe spd thingys!

    GFB,

Just as a thought if you are using SPD's you could also open the locking part of the cleat (on the pedal). Quite wide so that, if you do need to get your foot out of the cleat quickly, then they are not being held so tightly. Should be a grub screw at the back of the pedal.

    Thanks Ian...I'll inform my mechanic!!

I remember when we used to talk about running.....Ah the good old days......:)

    ah running,

Yep back to the running club tonight for a session of intervals. Should be interesting after my half at the weekend :o)

Well...I have a wee run "round the block" at lunchtime today...around 2.5 miles. I don't have time on a Wendesday usually so I'm probabaly doing 2/3 runs a week at the minute.

It'll all go up again in December.

...just looking at my spelling! Wow!

Scrub that...forgot it's Tuesday, I'll be doing 5 miles on the treadmill when son is at running club.

    Afternoon all,

Just got back from first spin class...ouch. Went to swim training last night as well. All a bit of a shock after sitting on my *rse for three weeks, but I've got a dress to fit into by Saturday!

So....Pilates tomorrow, Body Pump thurs or Fri....

Still no running, the swelling on my foor seems to have taken up permanent residence....but maybe that's cos I ran a marathon on it.....hmmmmmm........!

Gym last night and aim to go for a short run tomorrow but as I'm flying out to Spain Friday will probably nothing else until the race on Sunday.

That means I'll have run about 20 miles IN TOTAL in the 4 weeks in between my 2 marathons.I've been to the gym a few times but not sure if I've cut the running back too far or done the right thing in just keeping my general fitness levels up.

    Any advice folks ?

Thank you all. You're really kind and I still like being here, esp since you're talking about all sorts of things like swimming (I swim in widths, ie one at a time), cycling (I hate what a saddle does to my behind).

DTB - what's spinning like? I'm tempted as it's supposed to be fun (but tough).

GFB - can't believe you're starting a training schedule at start of Dec. Already! Before Christmas! Wow!According to Paula in this month's RW mag, she takes a complete hol for 2 weeks every year - no running at all. Point was made in article that lots of recreational runners don't take a break at all and prob'y suffer for it. I just can't imagine doing nothing and letting it all slide.

NRG2...it's a pre-schedule-schedule that starts in December. When you sign up for the FLM newsletter from here they send you an email every week with your schedule on it. The start at -4 weeks and then go on to a 16 week schedule, so 20 weeks in total.

I honestly feel like such a slacker! It's because for the last year I've been on either a marathon schedule or the couple of weeks in between and presently am on the inbetweeny bit!

(Besides, I think PR runs twice a day so she probably can afford to take a fortnight off!)

    Only twice a day ? ;o)
  • Options
NRG2 - spinning was fun, but quite tough as I'm not used to cycling. felt good to work up a sweat without impact though!

i cheated and wore padded shorts so my behind lives to wiggle another day :-)

She's running two times a day more than me at the minute...snoozefest this afternoon (chucking down with rain+Man U v Celtic meant dear son cried off running club!) and I had a serious case of CBA...ah well, it's not critical right now!

OH NO!!!!! I did a Bad Thing! I bought one of those red adidas running tops at the Expo cos I'd promised myself some race merchandise, and I really like it except I hate the built in sports bra bit, so I decided to cut that out.

Anyway, it all came out fine apart from the front in the middle where I got distracted and I cut a slit through the top just below the neck hem....

    :-( boooooo hoooooooo!

I know it won't last so long now, but anyone have any ideas how I can repair it so I can at least use it a bit?

it's that clima cool material. was thinking maybe clear nail polish to stop the hole enlarging, them some attempt at darning it!

can't believe it - I normally get running tops for peanuts in TK Maxx, and finally I buy one at full whack, and then I mess it up before i even wear it once! grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Mr H, you're a fabric expert - is there some glue I can use on 91% nylon, 9% elastane?

Hello everyone - Four weeks without the Internet - OUCH! - Finally got my new modem and connection from Eircom yesterday, and saw Jeff's invitation, so here I am .

Now, I have to confess to being better at the socialising this year than the running (although I did manage Prague and Connemara, so not all bad) - But with all teh upheaval going on, I have a hell of a lot of work to do to get fit for 2007.

I've entered Connemara, would love to run Cork in June, and have been invited to the US between those two marathons for the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinatti - If I have any energy left, I will try and drag myself around Dublin - or maybe I will head to New York for that one a week later. Either way, I'll be around the City anyway.

All I have to do now, is start running properly. 200 lbs and counting DOWN !!!!!

Oh b*gger have just noticed I actually managed to cut two holes! How come I'm such a loser that I've totally screwed up a really nice top and wasted 30 euros?

off to bed in a huff - note to self - do not buy self any nice things cos she just ruins them :-(

Hi Liam, hope all is well with you, sorry about the rant, just depressed at messing up the special souvenir I treated myself to!

Awww DTB...I'm sure you'll be able to do a Blue Peter job on the top...of course you realise YOU are the resident artist so it's no point in askin us to help!!

Hope you're able to salvage it!! ;o)

thanks GFB - can't believe I'm so upset about it!

found some gunk on the net called Fray Stop, is only a couple of quid, so ordering that, and will then try and sew it up around the gunk. shouldn't be a problem with chafing as I have a sports bra underneath. Might last a few washes in a delicates net bag.....

sigh....you finally find a flattering running top.....maybe I could claim I'm going for the eighties slashed aesthetic?

off to bed now, pilates in the morning. although, if I'm still annoyed about the top, might do Body Pump instead as self-punishment....

    Morning all,

Could someone do me a favour?

I am after the 3:15 schedule off this site, but you can only get it if you pay the subs (ok, being a cheapstake and don't want to pay)!! Could some down load a copy and mail it to me????? Pleassssssssse.

I have the sub 3:30 one and just want to compare them and see if I can really take it on, and go for a really fast marathon time in Saville.
  • Options
Do they do a 3:15?...I'll check and see.
